Are spears REALLY effective against horses

You guys keep talking about having them "get together in a ball," is that accomplished with F8?

I know there are some mods and stuff that allow you to specify formations, but what about when playing without those addons? Is there a way to get them to form into tight bunches without formations mods?

Have them Hold this position... and then when the enemy is close enough tell everyone to charge and the line will all converge on the enemy together... pincer effect.

Will try that. I'm playing Fire Arrow mod and really loving it. Rucchi said somewhere that he had included Formations in a previous version of the mod, but decided to take them out because they made the game too easy.

I pretty much only do horse groups until the point where I start having castles and towns and such. I find infantry troops are much weaker than horse troops, plus slower on the map too.
