I feel like being helpful to some beggining archers so. If any 1 has a question on how to beat people with shields on fast horses E.T.C who is only useing a bow just ask me and i will help. I am always an archer and have no back up wepons so i have 75 odd arrows so i have no choice but to use a bow for all cases. Anyway i will look at this topic every couple of days and ansew any questions that people ask. But please mainly ask about bow tactics alough i can help with melle aswell i'm much better with range.

How do you kill an angry mob of sea raiders?

You ride up to them (with a shield) and if your horse is not yet dead, you dismount and get up in their faces so they switch to melee weapons. Then you walk backwards while fighting them. Remember to turn when you get to the walls of the generated scene. It helps if you have a long weapon.

(I'm assuming you are a loner. If you have an army, use your troops as axe fodder.)

PS. Do not, repeat, DO NOT attempt to use ranged weapons against sea raiders. They will take you apart in no time at all.

But you said you play as an archer with no back-up weapons.

Nonsense. Like all other ranged enemies in the game, they have a substantial "prep time" before they actually launch their missile at you. If you have a tree or rock or convenient hill to hide behind, you can kill them off without taking a single hit. I wouldn't suggest trying to take them on as a MOUNTED archer though because then you can't hide behind cover while waiting for them to give up on their throw... It could probably be done, but there are easier ways.

If you have a tree or rock or convenient hill to hide behind, you can kill them off without taking a single hit. It is all about using the hillsides as cover. And there is no reason you can't hide behind a hillside on horseback as long as the hills are appropriately large.

Yeah, I almost always switch to my sniper crossbow when I'm going up against either Sea Raiders or Swadian Crossbowmen. You just make good use of the terrain. Or if it's flat and you're a decent shot, stay at the complete opposite end of the map and pick them off from there, you can usually dodge their fire pretty easily from that distance.

Amen to that! Have you ever tried throwing knives from horseback? It is so great. You can't miss.

Exactly. And if you want to fight as a purly ranged foot archer dude, and are opposed to carrying a melee weapon of any sort for some reason, just carry some of these (not throwing daggers though), because you can throw a knife faster than anyone can hit you with their sword, when they're right in your face.

Any way how i kill sea raiders with bow is to move sideways to dodge there wepons then get a shot in. Up close i wait for the shield to drop then shoot them in the head.That tactic useually works but to make it work best you need about 7 athletics and very light armor so you can get away fast.

shield i found very usefull against these suckers and javelins or so and a long melee weapon close in kill flankers(deadliest) hit the rest by hit retreat hit retreat use shield if there trowing/shooting shield skill 4 with good shield they'll run out of ammo before hurting you

Nathan - I have a save game just before an encounter with an awful lot of horse-archers. It's really rather difficult to accomplish - I am alone and I have nothing but a Strong Bow (I think) and a lot of arrows. The horse archers always encircle me and I can't get a single shot off because I'm being hit too much.

What would you suggest?

If you're really having trouble in beating them, and can't get away, you could just let yourself be knocked unconscious this once. Alternatively, you could stray from the 'fairplay-road' and use the Ctrl+Click anywhere on the map cheat and teleport yourself to safety. I admit to using this cheat a few times to get myself out of the way of a few nasty-looking individuals.

The main way of handeling horse archers is to keep moveing. If you stand still you will be hit (stand still when shooting). Also hide behind what ever obsticles are avalible. Also go some where high that is unacessible to horse men. They should get stuck which makes them easy targets(this may be sorted out by armagan in later versions of the game). That is the way to handle horse archers. You should have atleast 150 archery points befor even considering to attack kergits with only a bow. Another thing to remember is to always have arrows in your inventory incase you run out of arrows during a battle.

always go for headshots. The usually kills in one shot. One good way of beating a horse archer is to ride up behind him and just shoot him in the back of the head.

What also would be possible is walking running to them and just near the edge of the map fire easier to dodge when not completely surrounded and you can then fire back without trouble.

It look to me as the AI start firing on long range, this make a pure ranged army more dangerous then a combined archer and cavalry army. The cavalry charges ahead and attack you. The archers stop and start firing on a moving target on long range and waste their arrows. Then the cavalry are down and you attack the archers they are out off arrows.
With a pure archer army you will face all of them then you and your army charge and the result can be devastating.

I only have an army when i'm a merchat. All other times i'm alone. Partys slow you down and use all the food so i travel alone. I Beat an army of 40 dark hunters as my archer alone. If you depend on your army to much you will get owned when they all die from lack of practise with your own char alone.
