Hello,

When I started the game I took a fighter but now I'm planning to take a one handed sword/mace/axe + shield a bow and arrows.

Afther this I'm going to try max my horse archery skill and archery itself..

You guys think this is possible?

I mean will I deal a lot of dmg if I do this as a fighter instead of an archer?

Regards

I don't understand what you are asking. Are you asking if it is possible to be effective at archery even if you are doing melee allot? If so then yes you can. I'm sure most people that play as an archer also play as a melee fighter. Obviously though the more often you do it the faster your proficiency will increase. You could even become a good archer even if the only times you used a bow was in tournaments and arena fights. But it would take a while if you don't do those things very often.

Btw what should I take... Crossbows or Bows?

I preffer bows but I would like to know your opinion.

Regards

I and most other people prefer bows. I have a poll where you can vote for your favorite proficiency and archery got the most votes so far (19), crossbows only got 1 vote.

If you intend to use on horse archery, use a bow. The more powerful crossbows aren´t useable on horseback, whereas almost all bows are. Archery greatly relies on Strength due to Power Draw so you will having a great time using a bow and a heavy backup weapon on horseback.

Crossbows are great if your character is sufficiently leveled without having spent any points in archery skills ~20 or so. They offer a precise ranged ability without any investment in skills. They are however, weak and slow compared to a fully upgraded archer character though, but it does start at an advantage compared with the bows.

As said before, i'd use a crossbow for a starter, if you're planning to mount a horse, invest in horse archery before you get Power Draw, hitting high isn't as important as actually hitting :p

Oh and btw, get a 2h and a shield, use shield when approachig archers and pull your 2h out to rape thru their archer lines

I have a naked archer-only char and a naked horse-archer-only char. Both ideas are so overpowered  I just love doing point blank face shots on the lumbering huscarls and sergeants

I decided to go archery

And I started to hate that I didn't have enough arrows so I made a post on the forum about a solution

1.focus on one handed sword(that way u can use a shield) and archery at the start (archery is good because if enemies are close and you have no other weapon you can basically spam arrows at there legs when they have there shield up, but if u decide crossbow you will only get a few shots off)

2. only put proficiency points in 2 types of weapons max or you will suck at all weapons

3. when you siege castles and take out the entire army by using arrows at early stages of the game make sure there is no more than 80 troops in the castle, you will level up quickly but safely. ie stand close to the castle walls so archers will have a hard time hitting you

4. once you are pretty far as a character id say level 20 roughly, bring a pike or double handed sword, along with 2 bags of arrows and a good bow, take out as many archers/crossbowman as you can then once all archers/crossbowman are dead, stand on the ramp by yourself and take out the enemy  one by one (this is very easy when using a pike) ... you will basically take out the entire any by yourself no matter what difficulty rating you are playing at !(as long as there are no more archers left lol then its a different story)

5. iron flesh iron flesh iron flesh

that is my current strategy atm hope it helps once you get roughly 220 proficiency points its not really necessary to go beyond that and you can focus on other weapons if you wish

If you use Magelord's tweak to access inventory in siege you will have as many arrows as you want.
Defending in a siege will be a boost up in your archery skill. Have your infantry hold position at the choke point on top of ladder. Then go to the battlement to the right of the enemy. They have no shield there. Now start shooting at the enemies on ladder while keeping cover.
Once you have lots of points in using bows (> 200), power draw and horse archery you will find that hitting enemies becomes way easier. Most of them will be killed by a couple of arrows. Steppe bandits are good practice for this.
As someone else stated a good horse archer is death on hooves!
