Summary: There is a patch note for 1.2.5 that states "Fixed a bug that prevented troops from detaching from their formations to siege engines and archer positions when the mission started." It seems this has had the opposite effect. Now every siege I participate in, the archers stay in their initial formations either in castle towers or on the ground behind the walls. I also create a new save for 1.2.5 and used cheats to start another siege, it also replicated the problem.
How to Reproduce: Enter a siege.
Have you used cheats and if so which: In my main save I did not. But in my extra save I spawned some troops

To help you further and continue our investigation of the reported issue, we need a video of the issue happening. We were not able to reproduce this with the save file or not, on different settings and castles.
 
Is it a behaviour where the attacker has overwhelming siege support and they have none to use so they avoid the walls? I've not found any archers doing this until the gate is broken then they try to relocate further back to fire

No, I just tested it with having no siege support during siege. This time a archer formation spawned on a wall, but they were still grouped up in a tiny ball. It seems something with the latest patch for the beta has made archers not break their spawn formations to man the archer spots on the wall. I am not sure why only some people have this bug. I tried a new save as well and the glitch still persists.
 
I am having the same issue since downloading the 1.2.6 beta. I sieged Syronea, Phycaon, and Lycaron. In each siege I built 4 trebuchets, stored, them, and then deployed them to destroy the defenders equipment. I did not destroy the walls. I also built a ram, and two siege towers. When I spawned in as the attacker, no archers man the walls. At most there will be a couple archers in the wall towers, but most sit with the infantry inside the walls. The infantry still defends the siege tower or ladder points. I did have a power advantage in each battle. Roughly 750 attackers to 400 - 500 defenders. It makes battles awkward, since my infantry can move the ram and siege towers directly up to the walls without any archer opposition.
 


I think I captured it here, archers initially take the walls. I fell off the walls and restarted the battle (also possible other bug; I didn't record it, but I failed to ambush their siege equipment, retreated back inside the town and it gave me the achievement shown in video)
On the restart a large number of archers veer off and group at the bottom and only seem to goto the walls when another archer dies?
 
I was watching strat's vassal of southern empire ep3. You can see it clearly that almost no enemy archers man positions on the wall. It happens in every siege battle.
 

In Flesson's recent world conquest series he updated to 1.2.5. In the video look at time 13:30. Flesson on the attacker side says "where are all the archers" and looks around the walls and sees no archers. Then in the same video look at time 31:05. Flesson as the attacker gets on top the wall and looks inside the castle. There you can see all the archers bunched up in a square on ground level. The archers never left their spawn to defend the walls.
