So... this is rather new for me. When I order my archers to "hold a position" they don't fire.

Not even a single pellet of skin is shoot out of them. However, when I order them to charge, there goes the arros/bolts.

Anyone ever experienced that? I wasn't able to find such an ocurrence on the forums.

If you have troops in their line of fire they may not shoot. I find that hitting weapon orders, then selecting "Ready bows/missiles" increases shot quantity, also selecting "Fire at Will" sometimes seems to affect things too.

Not sure why your archers wouldn't shoot unless its just 'one of those times' we all experience in M&B or if your just doing something wrong...
Also, higher level bowmen seem to shoot from further distances.

the enemy is usually something like 50steps away from them, and while walking they usually shoot... it's really weird.

Probably your case is your own troops in front of archers. I usually found a hill and set archers on top, and infantry a little in front and lower, then provoke enemy attack. Always works.

Ya thats my standard battle plan most every time

Sometimes it's caused by giving too much orders after each other, the game needs time to give 'em through or something. I usually have that when I gave around 15 orders in like 5 minutes or something.
