Im just curious. I always used to prefer first person in single player warband. It felt more real... like you were really down in the action.

I have been playing the Beta and it seems like it is a distinct disadvantage to use it at all now?

Is first person just an afterthought now?

What do you guys think?

First person is a significant disadvantage. While it is realistic you just can't have any awareness around you in first person. You always have to completely turn.

I don't even know why there is first person mode anymore. Previous game was obviously not made for fps and there is no improvements upon it, it only causes disadvantages (except for using bow), breaks immersion due to bad fov and lob poly modelling, which is what most people want this feature.

If this feature is going to be improved they should disable it in early access to prevent bad first impression, just like what they did with cloth simulation.

If they won't improve it they should remove it.

Like in Warband the only use for me at least is when riding into a building/hat with a low ceiling. Also i know archers who like shooting that way.

Never used it, except sometimes for Archery... I love that the choice is there though, unlike so many recent games.

Watch this.

I use the first-person mode when playing as cavalry, an archer or when I´m just exploring. I like it a lot though as many here have stated already, it´s definitely a disadvantage if you´re looking to be competitive. One thing I have noticed is missing though is the ability to free look when being in FP. I hope they get this sorted out in time for early access or shortly thereafter as I like to play mostly in FP when I play singleplayer.

First person is good for archery (I use it close/mid range only) or when experiencing new scenes or taking screenshots in SP.

First person is not essential but it's very nice to have. In single player its full potential of immersion will be revealed I think

It really sucks with big shields. If shields were a bit transparent in first person it could be useful for fights in narrow hallways.

I think it will break immersion if your shield were transparent in first person ?
And it's the all point of playing first person in single player.

In Warband, you could almost always see over the shield even if it was a huge one. Now its more realistic... and you can't see over your shield. But it's not so good for gameplay. For me, it seems to be that they have 'fixed' something that really wasn't broken.

It's pretty useful for archery, i use it to make my aim more accurate and so far it's working.

First person is pretty bad I'd say. Even for archery I rarely ever use it as the hands are all out of place. For example with a crossbow, the left hand is holding thin air, it's not even touching the crossbow so it just looks silly. Until that's fixed at least I won't be using it.
