Anyone play mercenray archer?

guess my question was very badly written, uhm.

I just don't get the impression that anyone plays it, I myself feel like it's too 'limiting' in what my character can do  :???:

but maybe that's just me?

Well, it's a class built around a particular super power, but once you've leveled a bit, it can do pretty much anything other classes can, except for the special abilities.

I -love- the mercenary archer in a combat sense, but it's really a very lame class. I like the others because they -give- you something, often something challenging. Like the sergeant starts off with just a few men and little money, mediocre equipment, but he gets very good wage-bonuses for faction troops and gets a bit of respect from the nobles. Barbarian is a powerhouse but gets penalties on wages to make up for it. Condotierre is just awesome and gets uber respect from nobles. Merchant is just rich as hell and I believe gets better deals all-around. But the archer? He's good with a bow... Yup, that's it. =P

Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to go into a battle and single-handedly pick off 113 bandits spamming arrows, but it just lacks that little "something" the other classes have.

I understand the class and all, it should certainly stay as I think many people rly enjoy it.

but I feel like the problem is that if you're for example a barbarian, yes u got combat superpowers that make you reach almost 1/10 of Chuck Norris' strength, but you're free to choose how you want to play.

With the archer, you get a similar combat boost, but the class limits you to being an archer - which is why I never played it.

just cause xeno mentioned it in a previous thread, i played as a merc archer for a bit, i did not enjoy it but it does seem like a fun and interesting class

It was fun to be robin hood for about fifteen minutes.

Then I missed the combat of my barbarian (along with the ability to get all the combat skills right off the bat).

The barbarian provides visceral combat instantly.
The mercenary archer provides the same thing... Kind of. Archery with the Mourn bow is only entertaining for so long. Especially since you cannot max all the combat skills, and in my personal preference, ranged combat is no where near as fun as melee...

i think they shoud expand the class into some kind of bandit class..i.e ...high looting skill lots in spotting and pathfinding.....make it more appealing and cooll

"They" I am always usually open to new ideas, but there's already a bandit class, so a different theme is needed

I play as merc archer  i just love that uber bow you get get that the starter arrows (+15 damage) and the eastern arrows almost 115 arrows that combined with a 5 HA skill = uber pwnage along with a 2 hander im using lights hope i think its called but its a super long sword but i dont really like it and im thinking bout swapping it out for another 2 hander

I really liked the idea of the Merc Archer but  what bothered me about the class is that he can't snipe! The description says that the Merc. Archer as a child could snipe birds out of the sky. The Merc. Archer is anything but accurate for such precision shots, despite having 400+ bow skill.

I understand that the Merc. Archers strength is to deliver a flurry of arrows into a mob and that each shot does awesome damage, but I really think the Merc. Archer would benefit from some sort of high precision shot. I made a feature request that, if possible, the Mourn Bow has a secondary fire mode that has a speed of 50 (something slow) but is extremely precise - even when zooming the reticule should be 100% tight.

I think it has to do with the fact that Power Draw is taken out. Even though the Mourn Bow has no Power Draw requirement, I think the 0:0 Skill:Requirement prevents the player from getting that sniper shot ability.

Yeah, getting back to 100% accuracy is a bit tricky.  I like bortling's idea, I'll take a look at whether it can be done.

I completely agree in general.  Class-specific, though, might not be too big of a deal; I'm halfway tempted to give 'em nearly perfect accuracy, then drop a penalty on them like the Barb's

IDK, I'll have to test things and mull it over.

Yesh, my request is class specific to the players Hero. I was not asking for a blanket 100% accuracy boost to all bows. >_<

I think a barb nerf to the Merc. Archer would be warranted... IF you allow the super sniper mode of the Merc. Archer to also act like a ballista and the arrows pierce multiple targets. \(^0^)/

That would be awesome!  So realistic and... and...

Meh, I'd rather work on chibi ears or something.

I am almost thinking that changing anything may cause whining, lol.  My fault, for glorifying the class with the guide... should've glorified one of the truly unplayed ones, like the Merchant, then maybe it would finally get tested enough to get the balance correct-ish.

In all seriousness, I have not actually tested any possible solutions yet, so IDK what's even possible.

Another possible solution would be to make another missile-based character theme, specifically for snipers, and downplay the Merc Archer's accuracy in the text.  That sounds like work, or something.

Let's keep things straight here, not turn this into WoW. Having a multiple target pierce attack would be like barbarian cleaving multiple targets with one swing, that's overkill and would ruin the balance of the game.
