Anyone notice serious performance changes with horses?

My FPS is a little erratic, and I'm trying to figure out why. I've noticed if I have an all infantry battle I can have the troops slider set to 40 with no probs. Once horses are involved, it really needs to go all the way down to 14 to be any good, but at least down to 20 to be playable. I have noticed that trees and foliage also have some effect, but I'm starting to think it's the horses that do the most damage. I remember reading somewhere that they had new models or animations or something, and I wonder if there was a change.

Maybe this is jumping at shadows, though.

.730 had fixed that prblm for me, but now thta i got .731 its started all over again, in a big battle with horses my fps go crazy...and my machine shoudl be able to stand it fine

i noticed the same thing in 0.711 on my rig
AMD64 x2 4400+, 2GB ram, GeForce7800GTX.

using the battlesize changer and pushing the battlesize to 80 resulted in very poor performance with lots of mounted units, when using an all infantry army it was alot better. (still not perfect since the enemy often had horses aswell)..

the horses doesn't look complex enough to warrant such a huge performance difference.. i havn't tested it properly with 0.730 and 0.731 yet since both those versions were a bit buggy
i havn't managed to get to a high enough level and raise a large enough mounted army to test it properly, i also havn't tested the battlesize changer with the new version (does it work?)...
seems fine in at battlesize 40 though (but it was fine at 40 in the old versions aswell on my rig

Could be the dust effects. Looks like its handled as particles, which would explain why horses are causing a slowdown.

Loading a battle with lots of horses can cause a major slow down, but I've never seen it during the battle.
In 0.731, I had one battle where I was in a river surrounded by cliffs, trying to survive against some 15 Swadian knights and men-at-arms. I also had some friendly knights & cavalry who I commanded to dismount, in addition to the infantry. The game slowed down severely because everyone got packed into the same location. Situations like this are very rare, though, and I don't experience noticeable slowdown with cavalry in normal battles (expect at the very beginning).
