Anyone knows a boxing/kickboxing game ?

Actually coming to think of it, there is that capoeira game that came out under the radar. Supposedly is on the more technical side with some aracady things.

I haven't really played any boxing games that have been released after 2002 but Fight Night Champion is pretty much the best boxing game I've ever seen, ever.

I liked the fight night games, though I think I preferred the first one over the later releases (haven't played the last 2 ).  I thought the whole punch controls thing on the analog stick was pretty awesome, and had some pretty good boutes with a friend, though we tended to try to jab/box like normal,  not really sure how it played online at all.

Still, I think they are pretty good games if you like boxing, was the most fun I had with one post 4d sports boxing.

Not sure on kickboxing though... there are a few UFC console ones, uhh pride and umm undisputed or something like that? Anyway they had decent reviews, and they usually break down between striking vs groundwork st yle fighters, so you could get some action there.

Def Jam Fight for NY was pretty fun as well, though a little old. Has some kickboxing styles, but is mostly about slamming celebrities heads into concrete pillars/cars/trains etc

I think the last two fight nights have lost something of the earlier ones. The older Fight Nights felt more real somehow. I think the first one where they introduced the 'total punch control' was great, but they somehow made everything a little less fluid and fun in later games. There is always so much promise and hype before release, but then features don't function quite how one thought they would and disappointment follows.

I remember a good kickboxing game; Panza Kick Boxing! About twenty years old mind (maybe more), but it was fun and it had a neat feature which allowed you to customise your boxer's repetoire of attacks from a long list.

Lol i had that one, didnt remember the name till you said it, i think the only thing i did was try to land spinning backfists' but i remember liking it a lot.

'Fight Night Round Four' I believe. No unnecessary last-minute storyline nobody needs, just great controls and sublime graphics. If there's more games on Xbox or PS3 you fancy playing, I'd definitely say its worth buying Fight Night and a console for if you're as passionate about boxing as you say you are. There's also a great 'create-your-own-boxer' kind of feature. Boatloads of people have put their creations online, recreating boxers like Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Prince Nasseem, etc.

There's Garouden on the console. I think it has some gameplay flaws but may be worth checking out.

Martial Arts Capoeira
I have no idea what it's like.

Ah yes. My friend has it for the pc. I'll borrow it from him today, give my opinion later.

That reminds me, I got Streets of Rage 2 but haven't gotten around to playing it.

All righty my initial thoughts on Martial Arts: Capoeira.

Pros:
No "super fantasy moves." Such as everyone's favorite Hadouken. Every move each character pulls off, is a real capoeira move. There is however, if you get enough focus, a slow motion mode.
Stamina levels - you can't just pull an endless combo ala Eddy. Your character will get tired, and if you are tired you are vulnerable.
Good speed - the speed of the fights are not lighting fast such as other games. But it will still give you challenge.
Match isn't over when the time runs out. - There is no point system.
No ****ing confusing combos that seem nigh impossible to pull off - You can link any of the four attacks together in any combo you want.
A "career" mode that is similar to the original One Must Fall.

Cons:
Lack of graphics optimization.- This reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally surprised me. There is no way in game to adjust the graphic settings. So you are stuck with one resolution.
The animations - are sometimes a little wonky. They seem stiff at times. Some of them seem motion captured, but others do not.
Match isn't over when the time runs out - instead of a draw like other fight games, you run out of stamina faster. Thus making it easier to knock the other person out. Sometimes its good but other times it's really annoying. You can't pull off a good chain.
The controls are oddly placed, but they work when you get used to them. (Basically: WASD for movement. Space bar for evading. B,N,H,J are your attacks, K with those is more powerful version of that. Space Bar with b or n is a counter move.)
No grappling: Since it is a full contact version of capoeira I would have expected some of the grapples and throws capoeria has. But they are surprisingly not in the game.
Character models, are not the greatest.

Impression: It's a fun game. Like capoeira (and other combative sports) matches, it's heavily about anticipation. You have to watch your stamina, for if you try to just endlessly combo your opponent, you will run out of breath, and won't be able to pull of dodges, or attacks. So you have to move around the circle, and hope they don't hit you. It's a good system they have. The basic attacks take up little stamina (basic kicks, and punches). The punches are very short ranged (or depending on the character, elbow strikes), but can disrupt the move your opponent is doing.

The career mode, is about building your character up, and moving up the ladder. You bet money on other matches, on yourself, and all that jazz. Quite similar to One Must Fall.

In short, if you can find it cheap, I would say go for it. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, though.

You could preorder Overgrowth from Wolffire games. It's still in alpha, but there's quite a robust level editor and it's frankly quite challenging and fun to play.
