Anyone know of any good space empire building games?

I'm kind of in the mood to play a space empire/civilization game, or a mod for a game that turns it into the above. One I haven't played before, hopefully. I've played Space Empires IV and V, Galactic Civlizations 1 and 2 and all its expansions, Sword of the Stars, and possibly one or two others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Anyone got any suggestions for new ones? Would be cool, thanks.

Hmm. Galactic Civilizations and Sword of the Stars are the big recent ones. Sins of a Solar Empire is not really an empire-builidng game.

You can find some great old games, though.

I played IG2, too. Forgot about that. Wasn't terribly fond of it. How's the original compare to the sequel?

Oh, also played MOO2 and Hegemonia, forgot about that as well.

There's Star General, though that one is largely overlooked. I really liked it though, especially in hotseat.

Master of Orion 2 is the greatest space empire game I have played. I didn't buy MOO3, because all people I know who played both did not like MOO3. But I heard a rumor, that there is a mod for MOO3, which corrects some bad issues in game, making it better.
EDIT: maybe even with a mod it is still not as good as MOO2. Not sure though.

I have the original of it. Preferred it's predecessor though, Fantasy General. They're both wargames rather than empire builders though.

Yeah, Fantasy General was awesome, though the difficulty scaled up to stupidly hard towards the end. The hotseat mode was fun though, albeit underdeveloped (in my opinion, anyways).

They're both wargames rather than empire builders though.

You could play it as an empire builder though (although with a heavy military focus), if you played the skirmish mode. My cousins and I used to spend days playing through a single game, first ganging up on the computer, and then tearing into each other like the treacherous bastards we were.

In that case, you'd be better off with Emperor of the Fading Suns.
