anyone else getting lots of random hangs?

I'm just playing plain v0.903 native and I've been getting a lot of complete system hangs. In previous versions, occasionally I'd get an error message with an option to abort, cancel or ignore, which I'm sure everyone is familiary with, but in v0.90x, I get a complete system hang and have to reset my system. I just reformatted my computer 2 weeks ago so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my computer. Is anyone else experiencing these hangs in the latest version? I feel it's gotten less stable.
 
If by hang you mean all the action freezes for a few seconds and then the game continues, yes, I get a lot of hangs. No, it doesn't crash that much where I have to restart the game or the computer, but I do run into that library error, usually when I run into an enemy lord on the world map. Happened three times in a row in different spots just now. I was trying to break the siege on rivacheg.
 
Is your PC getting too hot inside? Try taking the side off, and see if the hangups stop. Maybe the game is pushing the vid card and processor too hard for the case fans to handle. Happened to me before.
 
No, this is a permanent freeze. Must reset the PC to get any further response from it. I also get the temp freeze and then resume when new enemies/reinforcements arrive, but I'm not sure if these are related.

I don't think my PC is overheating. I have a custom heat sink and high speed fan on my cpu, and an extra case fan. My computer is also in the basement in the middle of winter and I have a system monitor that sets off alarms when there is overheating.

I've played around with the settings and I've found that this perm freeze only appears in DX9 rendering mode... I guess for now I'm going to be stuck with ugly DX7 to get a playable M&B.

Stonegolem: are you getting a permanent hang like me or a temp freeze and then resume?

Dam I was geting this hangs to, now I know that is because of the 42 celcius temperature there and that a few assholes stole the culler.

Just the temps.
 
I'm not much of a technical expert, but have you definitely got the latest version of DirectX?

Also, I sometimes get little 3 or 4 second freezes when reinforcements or new enemies arrive, so the two probably aren't related.
 
Update: I just found a solution that seemed to work for me so far, up to 3 hours tonight of constant playing on full settings, full shadows, full water reflections, unlimited corpses and ragdolls, dx9 with AF and AA, and battle sizes large enough for my frame rate to drop to <5, and my M&B was stable.

Turns out:
1. there is a problem with the latest ATI drivers with AGP cards (http://www.driverheaven.net/ati-graphic-cards/149618-ati-agp-video-card-problems.html), and

2. there may be some issues with how windows handles the ATI drivers that conflict with sound drivers (?!). http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/11589-ati-bsod-fixed-finally-will-help-all-you-ati3duag-dll-squeal-death-et.html

Anyways, if anyone is having the same problems I'm having, try reverting to some older catalyst drivers if you have an ATI AGP card (cat 7.5 or older) and install these two updates from Microsoft (http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/11589-ati-bsod-fixed-finally-will-help-all-you-ati3duag-dll-squeal-death-et.html) which for some weird reason is not part of XP SP2, and not in the critical updates section of windows update.

This seemed to make my system stable, at least for tonight... I usually couldn't play more than half an hour before I get a random system reboot
