BurnGun

Recruit
Hey. i'm trying my hardest to enjoy this mod but i just can't. I need some help to start of with, What should i do?
Any thing you can say will most likely help me because i have no idea what i am doing.

Start off with reading the stickied FAQ for PoP. If you have any specific questions use the quick questions sticky.

im reading it, i just have to ask what is a "Adventurer" and where do i recruit Jatu Mercanarys

An "adventurer" as in the awesome horseman you can find it taverns or as in... all of us players are "adventurers"?
Jatu mercenaries can be found randomly in taverns, along with all the other types, not sure why you are looking for those in particular though...

Note: You probably won't find adventurers that often, more likely that they are ____nobles. But for early game I'd stick to companions since they don't die and replacing them won't be a hassle

Hi, I am not too sure what your skills are, you could be expert ninja in Native mode, but a few basic tips I would give to start off in the mod are.

Be prepared to alter skill levels for you and your army in the early game. Some of the groups that attack you are very strong and you could be disheartened trying to fight them.

Keep your band small to start with so you can move faster to avoid impossible conflicts, and build them up.

The troops you mentioned are expensive, and you are unlikley to be able to afford them in the early game, so unless you beat a gang of bandits etc. and take their prisoners on, higher tier troops will be hard to come by.

This is a tough mod to play, but really rewarding, in fact I actually like the early and middle game the most, so take your time as it will get really fast paced later on and explore, a major part of the fun.

A last point, try not to fall out with too many "Knight" groups that you may see around, as eventually it can effect your game later on.

Also a little hint of how you can get nearly Noldor like units for free in late game:

1.Wait till Three seers spawn.

2.Look around for those little patrols they are spawning.

3.Equip yourself and all your companions with blunt weapons.

4.Knock down all those female infantry archers they have.

5.Go to camp menu - Take an action - recruit prisoners.

6.I guess its based on your persuasion skill however if you manage to recruit them, store them in your castle/town for the first night otherwise some of them will escape.

7.After some time they will upgrade to Doomguides and that's how they look like:pop3.wikia.com/wiki/Doomguide

8.???

9.Profit!

The reason why i compare them with Noldor is because they got nearly just as good stats,Noldor bows and probably the best blunt one handed weapon, very nice armor and they are mounted!

And they are also better than noosers praised Hero Adventurers

I`d say you should keep a small-medium army of mounted units only...they give u great speed on the combat map and u take relatively few casualties after a battle.
Also being a mercenary in the service of a kingdom can be alot more profitable than being a vassal so u should try it.
Equip yourself and your companions with the best armors u can find. Trust me you will need it!
Lastly...have fun...this is a great mod very complex and very well made...after a time playing it you will find the solutions that suit you best

Basic advice?

If you can´t fight, run. Read the FAQ and the links there, and until you gathered a few levels under your belly and acquired a decent army stick to bandits, mystmountainers and vanskerries - means mainly in the blue and partially in the green/red area of the map.

Thanks all of you, And yes im basically a autralian native pro, not the best but yeah. ok thanks

Recruiting and leveling companions is basically my early game. To start at the area of Ravenstern (the blue guys in the north) especially northeast is a good place to level by killing bandits.

As previous posters mentioned, keep your party small so you can choose which battle to start. Your party should only consist of companions and maybe some mounted units, but beware knights are really expensive in PoP Young Nobles would be my choice but only upgraded to Squires because Knights will cost you about 100Denars weekly, Squires only 30.

It does also help to have a good looting skill and some points in inventory management (possible via the right answers when creating your character), this way you get better loot from the bandits and can sell it.
Trading can you also get good money but only some routes are really rewarding. A lance can be a good friend against bandits, of course while being mounted.

And starting the midgame you will have more than enough renown to become a vassal of someone. Killing bandits with a small party will usually get you at least 15renown or more per battle.

This mod can be frustrating at the start but once you get the hang of it you don't want to play native again. Its basically everything native should be and much more.

If you want ranged units... [Non-noble lines only]

-Ravenstern has the best overall archers in the game, and have the option of foot archers or cavalry archers. Most (maybe all?) come with two handed swords and can deal a good amount of damage in melee, but they aren't the most durable guys out there, so protect them.

-Fierdsvain archers aren't the best out there, but unlike the Ravenstern, they're probably the most durable. They're pretty much half-infantry.

-Sarleon/Pendor archers are looked down by some, but their true potential comes in arrowspam. Get these guys in groups and they can be dangerous.

-Empire use crossbowmen. Think Rhodok from Native. They do well in the field, but they dominate in sieges, where they can continue firing throughout most of the battle while bowmen have pretty much used up all their arrows and are forced to fight in melee.

-As for D'shar, I couldn't really tell you anything useful, since I've never used them. I hear they are the worst archers in the game, but they have some decent cavalry archers.

Woah! No. The dervishes of the D'Shar drop like flies. The D'Shar infantry and bladesmen are the ones you want.

Shadow isn't kidding.  The D'shar could have their entire archer line wiped out of the game, and they'd still do just fine with their hard hitting infantry.  The infantry moves quickly, can take a LOT of punishment, and can knock out horses in a single slash.

Not to mention the knives they throw sometimes.  Those kill more of my men than the archers ever could.  I've watched the D'shar wipe out an entire Fierdsvain military with only their infantry.  The D'shar cavalry and archers were wiped out, and then in a complete turnaround, a force of fifty upper tier D'shar infantry wiped out four waves of Fierdsvain troops, roughly 80 a wave.

Personal recommendation, Ravenstern Rangers.  They utterly obliterate most things on the field, and despite them being a bit fragile, they can easily slay any arrow-ridden infantryman that makes it, and their greatswords can take out Sarleon Knights no problem.  The Armored Crossbowmen of the Empire are harder hitters, but on the field, their firepower can't hold off a mighty horde of Knights charging at you, while a R-Ranger line can wipe out 70% of the enemy before they even can get close.

Just to add my two cents.  I have always loved the empire cross bows for two reasons.

One:  They are tough and dole out huge damage to the faces of my enemy.

Two:  Not only does their ammunition last for an entire fight but their reload animation saves them from homing arrows and knight lances.

True that. Oh how much perfectly aimed headshots i missed, just becouse crossbowman leaned to reload X(
