Reading through a number of old topics and I saw the thread about Larper Documentary. Just wondering are there any LARPers about here

A number of people were mocking the fact that the Larpers in video were using foam weapons, just to dispel a possible myth Larpers are not all wimps, in the UK we use weapons made of Latex layered around a Carbon fibre core and it hurts like hell if hit with it (not enough to break bones or anything but still hurts a lot).

Any ways just a simple enquiry

Sorry should have made this more clear

Role-Playing is basically acting without a script. You create a character in your head (it could be you, someone you admire, or a make-believe personae) and then decide how you think they would act in this pseudo-medieval world.

Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) is doing this in "live action", or in real time.
So instead of telling someone what you are doing (as with most role-playing games) you just do it yourself. If you want to attack someone, throw magick at your foe or run away, the choice is up to you and so is how its done. Swing a sword or axe, make a grand magickal gesture or just wiggle you finger, the choice is yours.
You decide how your character thinks and acts, then do it.

Does this Help?

When I was about 12 I used to participate in something called amtgard. It was fun because you would just run around hitting people with your foam bat (or 2 of them in my case) while trying to capture their flag. At least that was how it was supposed to happen. What actually occured was people would stop the "battles", go talk to some sort of refree, and the following argument would take place for 20 mins"

Douche 1: "While I was running past him, he hit me in the head and that's a foul!"
Douche 2: "Well I was trying to hit you in the chest but you ducked!"
Douche 1: "No I didn't!"
Douche 2: "Yes you did!"
Douche 1 & 2 proceed to yell this at the same time.
Douche Ref: "OK OK OK Calm down, One at a time! Okay Douche 1, tell me what happened..."

Then it just loops over and over again until I, being so bored now, proceed to walk home. I did that for about 3 months (meeting on Saturdays) until I got kicked out for wearing black & red and not being a member of the Pirate Clan. Oh yea, keep in mind that I was the youngest one there and these dudes were ranging from 16-42. I despise these clowns. SHOOT ON SIGHT!

For what I know, that is not LARP. As there was no roleplaying included (well as much as there is in D2), or atleast that I thought after reading your post.

Yes, I'm a LARP'er.

I wouldn't it consider larp-ing in the standard sense but, you do pick what kind of class you want to be (I played an assassin/warrior), you "leveled up" the more times you participated in various events, and there were other games going on (such as foam archery contests, duels, and "ditch battles") but I only played the capture the flag. From what I can remember, amtgard was among the first in the "foam battle" genre and then once RPG's & LARPing became "popular", amtgard kinda got lumped into that category.

funny side note: I couldn't remember the proper way to spell amtgard so I googled it and this came up:
www.Amtgard.com - The Home of Amtgard
This site is the online home of Amtgard, the live action role-playing game.
I guess they have moved onto the bandwagon.

How sad that that brings back memories. Except in amtgard, you had to say "fire ball" or whatever 5 times before you could "cast" one. So as soon as one of those wizards would raise their arm to start chanting, I would peg him with a poison throwing dagger for a kill (wow, that still doesn't sound cool). Also a hit to the leg meant no leg, hit to the arm meant no arm, and hit to the body means you are dead so none of this being hit by 16 lightning bolt garbage. I gotta say that my favorite part of that video though is one of his tennis balls he throws dings one of his friends in the face.

If you look close enough you can find the 5th male too.

Idiot, had to paint the entire picture just to make sure no other idiots misunderstand me.

didn't think that would have been possible

if you where just trying to be witty: I've had too much: are you gay? crap in my life to laugh about these kind of jokes directed towards me.

I appreciate your delicate approach.

That surely wasn't necessary?
crap in my life to laugh about these kind of jokes directed towards me.
I though that a such selfassured straight guy, who states that 4 boobs (rather than 2 women) are a good reason to join "Amtgard", would not mind a little joke. Unfortunately my assumption wasn't right. I am truly sorry if you felt bad about it. I would take it back if it did any good.
I've had too much: are you gay?
Would there be something wrong if I was? My answer: No. Atleast not in the meaning it is popularly used in these times. But in the other meaning of the word, I am gay from time to time, yes. And may I ask: Of what have you had too much?

Ok would it be possible for yous guys to maybe do this over PM's? This is more about hating on LARPers (or not, if you like them I guess). This is not about a lame joke and an over reaction. Just because you're having an argument, doesn't give you the right to **** in these guys' cereal. If you need to continue hating someone, hate on Juno.

jokes insinutaing I am gay or less masculine, because I tend to joke a lot ans spend time on my apearance and do other unmanly things like bathe with lotion that smoothens the skin. I even have a cousin who refuses to speak to me because the jokes insinuating I might be gay convinced him I must be gay, and my own father keeps wining I should get married to prove I'm not gay.

plus a good friend of mine when I was 15 tried to kiss and do other stuff with me because he thought I was gay too but just hiding it like him.

those things made me become agressive when annyone insinuates I might be gay, even if it is a joke, and it made me agressive towards gay people. (I once tried to cheer up a gay guy that was crying in a danceclub because his boyfriend dumped him (I cheer up everyone I see crying, because I hate to see crying people) and promptly I was gay according to my cousin and his gf for just talking to the gay guy.)

I'm a metrosexual, and people often ask me honestly if I'm gay. I just say no and smile, it doesn't offend me in the least. Girls really dig a self-conscious guy :D

But on the subject of LARPers... I really don't care, so shoot them.[/i]
