Another school shooting has happened on the Virginia tech campus today, which is the second very major one in a short period.

Discuss.

I hate to sound like an insensitive **** or anything but is two people, one of whom is a police officer, really comparable to the previous incident? .. or deserving of the description 'very major'?

The first school shooting in the US happened in 1764 and there where about 12 in the 1800s. In the 1900s there have been about 80ish... Is it just me or is that a ****ton?

Coincidentally, a whole fuuuuck tooon more people go to schools nowadays.

Reloading is also considerably easier these days. Duels between upstart aristos are also less common-place.

Must have been crazy to be the driver...you get pulled over by a cop and then a guy runs up and kills the cop and runs off....

I had the same thoughts, what's the correct protocol in this situation?

Run him over with your car. You're basically operating a massive battering ram - you're hardly helpless.

Hmm, if you see someone about to kill someone else or a group of people are you allowed to kill the killer?

Wait, what?

Yeah its what happened. At first I thought it was the driver who shot the cop but apparently a guy came up as he was pulled over and shot the cop...

Very easy answer, yes, of ****ing course. At least in the US. Sure, it's best to use non-lethal means, if possible, but if the assailant is pointing a gun, for instance, your only chance to save their lives is probably going to be to deliver lethal force.

In the States? Lord, no. You're hardly allowed to kill in self-defense, much less the defense of other people. Especially if those people aren't actually harmed.

Edit; I have a lot of trouble seeing someone actually getting away with that with out jail time in normal circumstances. Average Joe guns someone down, they're likely getting man-slaughter, even if most of the witnesses say he saved them.

Now if one of us were to do the same, with our military ID's, we'd be lauded as heroes. Status makes a big difference.

Especially if the person who was the potential murderer is black.

Prison is a punishment for something you did wrong or a way to get you away from potential victims but what I don't understand is imprisoning people for years who accidentally killed someone. If every single aspect of the guys death was pure accident the person still gets jail time a lot of the time. What are they being punished for?

The thing it was not really another incident, it was just a traffic stop turned bad that just happened to be at Virginia Tech, none of the evidence say it was directed at Virginia Tech.
