Annoying bird sound in map mode

Users who are viewing this thread

There's this annoying bird sound that keeps repeating during the early morning hours when I'm in the big map mode.  I'm not sure if it's a sound effect or part of the music, but I think it's a sound effect.  I don't want to constantly reduce the sound volume whenever I hear it because it's a pain.  Does anyone know of a way to disable this?  I didn't notice this sound in previous versions of PoP.  :(

Well, some people are more sensitive to high-pitched sounds.
The birds chirping is part of the music tracks, so look in POP's Music folder for the travel_*.ogg tracks, and replace the ones you don't like with some that you like.

Yup, I never heard it. I started to wonder if I was deaf to that particular sound.  :shock:

That explains all, I play with music off from day one  :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
Maybe you can also try that.

It isn't birds, it is tree frogs - "spring peepers."  The track with the tree frogs is "uncertain_homestead" - replace it with
"outdoor_beautiful_land" (just copy "outdoor_beautiful_land" to desktop, retitle it "uncertain_homestead" and put it back in the music folder letting it overwrite) and you won't get the peepers and it will maintain the same overall feeling.

@roger de illuria - you missed a lot of neat things if you turned off the music - fun and noisy taverns, streets with lots of activity in the towns, themes keyed to every individual enemy.  Each faction has its own battle, travel, village, town, lords' hall themes as well.  Try it just once with the music turned on and you will see.

@roger de illuria:
Woe to Thee! No bagpipes for the infidel either! Just a gnashing of teeth and wailing as Epic Fail takes place instead of proper sound and music.

I play most games and M&B in particular with sound effects on but music off. I think music detracts from immersion (I doubt they had background music during middle ages battles  :mrgreen:)

Because of that thread, I've given a try to POP music, and I can only say that it is amazing as the rest of the mod. Excellent job, I will keep the music at least for a while.
