Hail to all! I be Lueii, herald of Richard Talbot, Duke of the Valley, son of John Talbot, Lord of the Valley, under his majesty the king of the High Realms. If one be wondering of my weird tongue it be an early modern variety of English.
I be here to announce their lordship. Their lands include the Port, (now to be called Porton) and the rest of the valley, although they are lenient toward newcoming nobles, as long as they swear to Talbot when they make their factions.
Two days ago, John Talbot enter the market place, dressed in his white clothes, to declare the realm of the Valley, which has, before his time, been in chaotic struggles with factions and banditry and at times (*gasps*) anarchy, as his duchy under the King of the High Realms and God.
Talbots are the sons of the Beauroses who ruled the Barony of Dukeston and the Lanasts of the Grande Duchy of Morton. His siblings rule the Duchies of Morton, Suffok, Summersun, and control the bishophoric of Hillton. John Talbot was the last son. He petitioned the king in the high realm, and he was create the first Lord of the valley, which was under the realm of the king himself.
For awhile there was no opposition until Achilles, son of Atreus, had a Coup de Grace and dethroned him. But gaining the trust of the treasurer, Winston, who remained loyal to Talbot, returned to the throne. But Achilles returned threatening to remove the Duke. In the events that followed, John left for the mountains and has never returned.
His son Richard came to claim his throne, with Winston and others. Even Achilles joined the league. And there was peace until the coming of a lone assassin, who attempted to slay us.
In the chaos that followed, a hunt began to slay the assassin. Richard had to leave, but promised to return. As he did. Now I herald them!
LAWS:
All lawbreakers will be arrested at sword point. Punishment for armed resistance be death on the spot.
All have the right to a fair trial.
In our domains there will be no unwarrented violence. This will be enforced by the sword. The punishment be to be locked into the catacombs (for minor offenses like self defense) and execution (intentional murder).
Our realm is the port. All crime done there are held accountable.
All have a right to form factions and guilds provided they do not attempt to insert themselves into the affairs of the duchy and they swear allegiance to Talbot.
There will be a parliment for deciding new laws and bring up matters of the state.
Abuse of ducal authority be punishable by death on the block. Abuses such as unjust arrests, killings, and executions whilest wearing the livery or claiming ducal authority in these actions.
Traitors will be executed on the block, or locked into the catacombs and forced to dwell in there whilest the guard journey around to find them and then execute them.
POLICY:
All new factions that do not swear to Talbot or assault shall be warned thrice. Then, Talbot will order the extermination of that faction.
We are very lenient. If you remain under the Talbot peace you shall be allowed to have independence.
Merchants are allowed to have loans from the ducal treasury.
Foreign rulers, Princes, Princesses, etc. have complete freedom provided they do not break our laws.
