OSP Animations Animations for the community - Shield bash animation released!

There is one more need, however it encompasses quite a bit of animations, so I don't expect Papa to jump on it. I'll put it in just for the sake of completeness

Currently all walking/running/fighting animations for one-hand weapons (or w/o weapons) are done from the point of view of a man w/o shield. So his left arm flies around freely. And this becomes a problem when we equip a shield, as shield mesh is tied to the shield bone rigidly, and apparently shield bone is tied to the arm bone rigidly so that arm stays fixed wrt shield. Means shield flies around as if it has no weight. Looks mighty funny when people run and wave their tower shields as if made from cardboard.

Fixing this issue is pretty complex, as we can't yet make agents use different animations depending on shield absence/presence. What can be done is toning down all that waves of the free hand, so that shields look better, but free arm does not look much worse yet. Rather creative task I suppose

Thanks for the suggestions. Could anyone else comment on these with regards to potential wide-spreadness of their use?

You kidding? new running and walking anims would be applicable to... any mod with running and walking in it, as in, every mod.
I myself have altered the running animations a little bit, I think their main problem is that the legs bend too much when they leave the ground to get ready for each new step. I think even downloading some free mocap and basing the animation off that would be an interesting idea...
 
We could use new musket everythings! The current firing animations don't actually grip the musket completely.
 
Update - Will hopefully get some more animation done in the near future. I recently relocated myself and have been getting established.

Well there's a difference between potential use and actual use. If I make an animation that's total ****e, no one will use it, for example. For starters, I plan to work on animations that are required for newer mechanics (like pike-bracing and shield-bashing). Then I might go for more general things that lots of mods would use (like new running, if that would be popular). Keep the suggestions coming though!

Pretty sure the left hand never has a proper grip in Warband's animations  :razz: 
Request acknowledged! A new firing position should be easy enough in any case.
 
Thank you the musket would help for my mod(a house divided) also could you make a marching animation i know that would be helpfull for line battles in MM and others

Would it be possible to get some nice, smooth horse animations? It's bad enough that their meshes look like digital origami, I'd love to see them actually have some life.  They are a namesake on the game, after all.

Namely: idle animations, standing aggitation (bit chomping, hesitation, stomping, shifting, etc), smoother speed transitions (from walk-canter-gallop and back again).  Also would be pretty epic to actually have aggitated horses actually kick back... teach some of them sea raiders to not stand directly behind my horse while they're eagerly boxing me in to whack at me. 
I would definitely use ANY of these.

I also second better jumping and running animations from above posts!
 
Hm, having idle horses actually do something does sound interesting. Kicks and stuff aren't done solely with animations, though.

+1. I had in mind of doing new running animations, but don't think I could have made mucho realistic ones as I would have wanted. Hopefully papa will do.
 
If it's not too much work, a new archery animation would be great. I checked out the one in the animations pack you made a while back - the inclusion of nocking the arrow is wonderful, but the actual draw on the bow could use some improvements. The animation in the pack has way too much leaning, whereas you shouldn't be leaning too much when using a bow of suitable draw weight.

Also, an animation of a windlass or cranequin crossbow would be wonderful

Er... When have you done a total ****e anim? Anyway, I'm sure you can do an excellent running anim.

And if your combat anims have been used a lot why not running, walking and jumping ones? Personally I felt these 3 were more needed than new ones for each weapon...
