Are you going to make a shield version too ?? (on the knee with shield up and spear braced) because i don't think this will fit for shielded guys ,anyway, i really like it, it's awesome :grin:

Looking good! However, will definately look better with short spear.  :lol:

Another suggestion, if you're still taking them:

Would be great to use the pavise properly. Both crossbows and matchlock longarms were used in conjunction with a pavise or stand.

I've seen crouching and laying prone in mods affect ranged accuracy and some have shields working with bows, so I can't see any reason to doubt the possibility of implementing working pavises.

With Warband pike lengths, it does take up a lot of the reach of the weapon, but I suppose I don't see a way around that...aside from adding longer pikes I suppose.

I had noticed that too Caba. Historically though, alot of the spear bracing was done with pikes of relatively the same length. The walls of braced pikes were a beast against Cavalry, and the longer pikes (extended awlpikes, 8-12 foot spears) normally broke within a few hits.

For anyone that's interested, I use rotoscoping for my animations. I film myself doing the movement from the front and the side (on this occasion I used two cameras so the two views were perfectly synced), and then use Adobe Premiere to export images of each frame of footage. Then I use those images for rotoscoping in XSI Mod Tool. I've streamlined the process a lot since I made the CAE mod.

If it looked like they'd be widely used, I might make them. I have enough to go on with for now, but those might happen in the distant future.

Pavises have been implemented, as the Frisian pointed out. I don't think a specific animation would be needed for using them (unless you mean deploying them).

Depoloying has been done too. The AI Just needs to learn it. :smile:

I'll be tweaking it so that the pike fits nicely under the foot. The character's a bit more bent over than I'd like, but that can't be helped since the right hand must be on the haft. I have also made frames for the character to return to the starting position, which I'll include in the eventual upload.

This version is best for shorter polearms. I plan to make a crouching version, with the weapon will be held at a shallower angle, which should suit longer polearms.
That looks very realistic! A pleasure to look at!

Great stuff Papa, you always seem to have something impressive up your sleeves.

One request I'd highly put in for we antiquity mods is a two handed on horseback thrust animation. I'm not sure how this could work in fitting within the current animations frameworks (if one would have to be removed), but it'd be fantastic to have.

I expect there's no animation for deploying the pavise. Probably not worth making really, since pulling a pavise off your back to deploy it is pretty ridiculous.

It's fairly unlikely that I'll animate this, since it would not be widely used. There's a small chance that I'll do personal requests at some point in the future (don't count on it though!). This thread is more for general-use animation suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. Could anyone else comment on these with regards to potential wide-spreadness of their use?

As for the musket - there's already a new musket reload animation in Mount & Musket. Maybe you could get permission to use that one.

Got any reference or description for the technique? Should the spear be held with a normal (thumbs facing head), reverse (thumbs facing butt), or mixed grip?

You could try using an existing two-handed thrust animation in the mean time (i.e., find the horseback thrust action in the actions.txt and tell it to play the on-foot two-handed thrust animation). It might not be possible to have both a one-handed and two-handed thrust in the same mod though.
