Animal walkers

OK, so I had this neat little idea to make animals walk around a town or village. The basic premise is to create an invisible troop that is using a certain animal as a mount, and give the troop the name of the mount. Since the troop is invisible, the size of the animal won't matter for this purpose. Some uses for this would be having a cow walking around a pasture (it would probably need a modified version of the set_town_walker_destination script) or, instead of placing horses in a scene as a prop, you could spawn an invisible troop using a horse as a mount. This way, instead of horses in stables standing there like statues, you would see them bending their heads and such like a mount does when it is standing still. This could also be done for cows if you don't want them walking around. Or heck, if someone could successfully make chicken or pig meshes that could be rigged well, you could have them walking around villages too. I haven't implemented this idea yet. I am just posting it before I forget. If someone doesn't beat me to it, and I make it work, I'll post how I did it.

just a thought, but you can spawn a horse directly.. and horses are considered agents to, so you can script their destination.

So if you just rig a cow to a horse skeleton, like you would have to do anyway, you should be able to spawn and move it around directly. Saves the trouble of the invisible troop and all that.

Cool idea btw!

so if we would like to make ambush battles (for caravans) you could actually choose a huge scene and then make the caravan spawn on one end (with horses of course) and then have the army being like and escort and they wont attack you until you make a charge?

I believe Highlander made herds of deer that run together. Ask him about it.

He did yes (see the Age of Machinery mod).

I've also been experimenting with animals...

Here's the bird model I made (awful job I know but it'll be in the sky so no one will really see it)

And here's it flying around (ignore the lizardman)...

This was done by placing a bird model far above a citizen's head/helmet model... so as the person moves it appears to fly around.

I thought horses without riders disappeared after a while. Or is that only if they reach the scene boundary? I've seen them disappear before. Once it was right in front of me when it disappeared. I had lost my horse and was trying to replace it with a fallen rider's horse.

How do you expect us to do that?

Not only is that ingenious, but it would also be a good way to find your troops. Also, in a large battle, there could be flocks of ravens flying overhead.

agreed.  I liked it so much I was trying to figure out how to add it to my star wars mod.  lol

'Cept that when the troops died, the birds would to.

that looks very good, but you probably need one with the wings open and legs up if you want it flying?

Well, yes, but that's an old model that I thought I may as well mention.

Would certain bring in a darker atmosphere. Nice model by the way.

Me and Kevian were also trying to work out how to bring in hunting dogs (for Liberty or Death), here's the model (I made it from a horse)...

So far it's the "hidden by invisible men" solution (to make them charge and obey orders)... but yeah... any solutions welcome.

If anyone wants the lizardmen, I'm willing to give them away in return for the rigging of my gorilla model (you'll get several heads, torsos for both genders and all pre-textured and brf'd). Just send me a PM. The plan is that then the gorilla models will then be open for everyone to use...

That would be fantastic for animals to be introduced in that capacity.  It would go really nice for the arena play in my Roman Themed mod Barbarian Invasion. Can't wait.  Terrific work Iviort.
