And now, the end is near....

Well folks, the release of the DLC is nearly upon us, and come Thursday we are all going to find ourselves thrust into a drastically new situation, with a new game to play, a lot of new faces to play it with and a lot of uncertainty ahead. As with Battlegrounds Two before us, Mount and Musket: Russia is going to become another part of this communities legacy as it moves into exciting new times. Whilst our game might be new however, the legacy from which we have come this far remains intact and will merely be added to by this new addition to PC gaming, until in time, it too is supplanted by newer and more advanced games.

Over the course of the time I have spent among this community, I have seen much that I have not seen elsewhere, something that I am glad to have seen and some that I have not been. I have seen battles of over 200 people, waged across a single battlefield, evolving like a game of chess. I have seen charges glorious and embarrassing, by men and horse, into victory and defeat, but losing none of the sense of spectacle in the process. Bonds of friendship and kinship I have seen formed amongst many, with some very powerful regiments emerging, a testament to the abilities of individuals who succeed in pooling their resources and forging themselves together into a single unit. It has been very agreeable to see within this game a great sense of amity and friendship amongst players, be they close friends or merely team-mates.

Much of what I have seen I would also gladly forget. The litanies of individuals spreading hate and malice need not, nor cannot, be documented here, for they are far too long and too numerous. Be that as it may, I hold the blackmailing, the violent threats and the destruction of property, as being spectacularly contemptible, almost unbelievable for a gaming community. But the actions of a few renegades for the sake of inciting a reaction or simply having a laugh in ignorance, pales compares to what I have seen amongst this communities longest standing and most well known members. Old hatreds and tribal loyalties, imported wholesale from a game that most of us have never played, bitter enmities and hostilities erupting over the most trivial of matters, an endless ongoing game of rivalries personified by player poaching, flame wars and personal attacks done on a level I did not think was possible. This community has shown its many vices, pettiness, vindictiveness, manipulation, cruelty and a willing subservience to the most lasting of hatreds - do not presume that I exempt myself from such criticisms.

As a community, I would be hopeful that as we move onto a new game, we can move away from the failings that have managed to anchor us for so long. We are presented with a unique opportunity in the coming few days to let go of old hatreds, abandon needless rivalry's and to try and imbue ourselves and our whole with the good old nature that managed to find a home in the actual soldiers and officers of this conflict.

To that end, all bans on the MM Official Servers are hereby revoked, and will remain revoked on the NW servers, people are free to create new offenses and causes for their banishment in due time.

Furthermore, in exactly 24 hours from the time of this post, I shall join our battle server and plan to enjoy myself for as long as the servers can contain me, you are all welcome to join and I hope to see you both there, and in our new home.

ah man i have enjoyed  this mod

i have spent longer then i care to imagine on this game, ever since the very first musket madness came out so long ago and i am proud to say i have enjoyed every second of it... i cannot wait till i get the new DLC

i believe trolling and teamkilling might go down a bit in the new version, because of that people would be more afraid of getting banned

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Time to die.

We are WAY past emoing, LETS DO THIS!!!

Yes, one thing I think always has characterized the community is all the rivalries, rivalries who's splitted regiments and friendships, rivalries that has caused community bans, and what not. What I was personally hoping for was to see some more happines among the new descended MM community - NW community, release old hostilities between forlorn regiments to another.

Good post nevertheless Praetorian, thanks for posting it.

There are quite a few that go on in private, that is just one that has spilled over into the public eye. Would be nice if people could just let bygones be bygones, but unfortunately a new DLC doesn't change people's personalities . However, I am looking for a nice fresh start. So looking forward to this

Aye!

It was a nice year (that I played MM3) and i'm looking towards the line battles, and events on Napoleonic wars!

Everyone goodluck in the DLC, and see you there!

Unique people playing a unique mod enjoying a unique experience. I count myself lucky finding this community and game.

Something that's been on my mind is mods coming out nor NW. Will something as unique as MM occur in NW? And what will the community be like a year down the road? Only time will tell.

that is 1 concern Millander for me is the community, i'm worried that a massive influx of the general M&B population out there will whine loud enough for changes that the bulk of the original MM community has always stamped away.

It's the end of an era. And the start of a whole new one!

No? Great...

And said my path will not be blurred
As you turn away and say good-bye''
