That is quite possibly the strangest creature I have ever seen. 

I wonder what it would fetch in Japan...

Because they're filming with UV light. It's not actually black, but the body is evolved to focus as much light as possible towards the eyes at it's head.
 
The "face" looked strangely humanoid, some eyesocket like things there despite the eyes being inside the body...
 
Things from the vast abyss tend to be rather ugly ones - more often than not at least. I hereby present to you; the goblin shark. If I'm not all mistaken they caught one in Tokyo Bay not too long ago.

I could go on for hours about weird deep-sea creatures. Batfish and frogfish, siphonophores and stoplight loosejaws. Fascinating stuff.
