Anarchy in Bangkok

Okay, I've done a bit of searching and couldn't find a topic that explicitly covered it but it appears as if the the capital of Thailand has descended into a violent riot and I've tried following the info since Thursday. I've got a friend from there (haven't talked in years but still) and I was wondering what the group's thoughts were on this.  How far is too far?

I've seen it on the news. They have the army fighting back at this point; they've declared certain areas "Open fire" zones, and snipers are dropping ****ers left and right. So yea, it's definitely gotten pretty intense.

It's anarchy. Nothing is too far, as there are no limits, or at least many people willing to impose them.

Definitely. They're in full out revolt at this point. The citizens are not listening, starting to fight, and the government has every right to fight back with full force to beat the ****ers into submission if they want to stay in power.

But if you are shooting aid workers and people who have nothing to do with the issues at hand you have crossed from upholding order and gone into tyranny. So maybe the protesters will prove their point in a different manner.

Here in Hong Kong they cover it every night. Escalated from simple protests to clashes about a week ago. Mob leaders told them to stop wearing Red Shirts

Yes but, assuming the current government wants to stay in control, unless a third party intervenes, the protesters aren't going to get a new government unless they win the fight. I wonder if they're looking for assassins...

Took the Brits a while to learn as well.

It only takes so much prodding before things spiral out of control. Also, what better way to bring attention to the problem than dying for what you believe.

Can't believe I hadn't heard of this at all.

Although saying the entire city has descended into anarchy sounds like an exaggeration. For those who haven't been to Bangkok - it's freakin' huge - and the area they are describing in those linked stories is quite small.

Been on the news quite a bit here too.

Unless I'm confusing this with different people vs army clashes; the rioters were firing fireworks? (amongst others?)

Now where are we gonna get hookers from?

Woot? Don't go there for hookers. Theres 50% chance you will get something extra.

Seriously, tho. People here are quite uneasy, what with the blastings just over the borders and whatnots.

Some of us are after that "something extra", unless of course you meant STDs.  :???:

Ilex, I hope that the "something extra" is a traditional Thai dinner, not what I THINK you're thinking.

Speaking of which, does anyone else think Thai food sucks?

I personally prefer Chinese out of all the oriental cuisines, Szechuan chicken ftw.

Of course Indian food trumps that tenfold.
