Hey everyone, first off I'd like to say that I have never modded for Mount & Blade before but I am going through the process of learning via some of the great tutorials on these boards. I would like to create a Mount & Blade mod based upon the Elder Scrolls game: Oblivion. (p.s It's a fantasy game)
modbanneral3.jpg

Minor Background:

Now, there is ALOT of lore to this game so I'm going to break it down into it's very core.

It is set within the world of Nirn which is ruled over by numerous gods: The Aedra, the Daedra and the Tribunal. The Aedra are seen as the "Good gods" while the daedra are seen as the "Evil Gods" and the Tribunal are seen as the "In The Middle" gods. There are 17 daedra overall, 9 aedra and 3 tribunal.

There are 10 races to chose from: Argonian (lizard/humanoid things), Khajiits (Tiger/Humanoid things), Nords (Human, barbaric warriors), Imperials (Human, noble people.), Bretons (Human/Elf, magikal), Altmer (Elves, golden skin, magikal), Bosmer (Elves, short, archers) Dunmer (Elves, dark skin, very cultist), Redguards, (Human, dark skinned, warriors), Orcs (Think of a 6'4 Uruk hai with green skin and an education, barbaric warriors.)

^ Map Of Tamriel

Tamriel is like a continent, it isn't the only one but it's the only one I'm going to be focusing on. Now, each race is from a different part of Tamriel.

Argonians - Black Marsh
Khajiits - Elswyr
Nords - Skyrim
Imperials - Cyrodiil
Bretons - High Rock
Altmer - Summerset Isles
Bosmer - Valenwood
Dunmer -  Vvardenfell
Redguards - Hammerfell
Orcs - High Rock

This mod is going to be set within Cyrodiil, the Imperial Provence, this is a rich province which has gained from the Imperial rule over most of Tamriel. The province is multi racial but Imperials are more common.

Story Of The Mod

(Setting)
The year is 4E2, Kvatch is being rebuilt and Cyrodiil is suffering with low moral due to the second death of an emperor. The lesson was swift and harsh, Cyrodiil needed to be more powerful, and one man Ocato Firsthold, thought he could bring Cyrodiil into the new Era.

Each town is repairing itself from the bloody campaign which took away their emperors, leaving the throne empty, where once again evil could come leaking, something which each count was readying themselves for, for they now realised, that the guard could no longer be relied upon to provide their safety. Now.. They needed an army. Something that would protect them from the chaos that Daedra brought.

Kvatch, the smoking ruin is being rebuilt.. The project was funded by an Imperial gentlemen; Chocula who was later named Count Chocula, the new count of Kvatch, high hopes were held for this count and he is known to be held in high prestige by anyone who has spoken to the man.

The Imperial city, once a gleaming city is now a ruin, houses have been smashed, people still mourn the dead and riots are often heard of. Most of the city is rebuilt, there has been alot of progress thanks to the support of both the Legion and the people.

Outside of Cyrodiil there have been a few campaigns within all the provinces which have an Imperial presence, this has resulted in some minor resistance that was quelled before it could escalate but many are worried about the balance and fear that it might tilt towards war soon.

There are rumours spreading of a new darkness, another wave of Daedra soon to come, people have dismissed these, thinking that the gods would not be so daring as to try again, but others feel that with the Dragonfires out, it is only inevitable. Ofcourse, which Daedric Prince attacks is under debate, for each surely want power over Mundas. But.. Will the Aedra come to their aid once again?

^ That is what the game will be set in when you start. As you get more into the game. The below will take effect: (Compliments to Kamos32 please.)

Ocato Firsthold has taken his place as Emperor.. he used his influence with the Court to grant himself the correct status to rule the Empire. He used his troops to continue the campaigns into the other provinces, hoping that with power over the other provinces, Cyrodiil will grow even stronger.

But this comes at a price, the other counts and countesses revolt, in a sort of civil war, but something goes wrong instantly, counts are killed, and people begin to blame other cities. The count of Anvil was murdered in her sleep, the Captain of the guard asked for Kvatch and Skingrad to aid them, with the power of the orcs from Skingrad, the new army in Kvatch. The captain suspects either Leyawiin or Ocato Firsthold and their forces are attacking both.

Chorrol, a town which is almost always being attacked from western raiders and northern raiders form an alliance with the Ocato and Bruma, seeing as both Bruma and Chorrol support the progress which Ocato is making. Bruma however have a large number of Nordic wariors, strong men who are barbarians by trade, poorly armed but strong in combat, they simply wish an end to the fighting and feel that Ocato has the power to do that. Ocato, angry at the attack from the other cities calls on the support of the blades and the legion, his answers are heard; the legendary blades refuse, deciding that they will try and find the true heir to the throne. While the Legion comes in partial force, for alot of them are currently in other provinces. One of the council members was murdered by a group of Argonian shadowscales and therefore the enemies of Ocato are the Anvil Alliance, the Bruma Alliance and the Skingrad Alliance.

Bravil and Leyawiin.. Two cities that are in between the Khajiit and Argonian provinces, both cities have a high percentage of beast creatures who are being relied upon to support the war with their relatives in Elswyr and Argonia supporting them, however.. Both provinces cannot spare their best warriors and therefore give them numbers over skills. But that doesn't mean they have a few surprises for the Imperials.. They fight for survival, but will they be able to gain revenge on the Imperials?

Cheydinhal... A dunmer town that is now supported by the armies of King Helseth, a strong willed man who wishes to overthrow the Imperial status in Vvardenfell and sees that he can do this by removing Ocato and forcing the Legion troops to surrender to him. Therefore.. he comes in force, backed by the wizards of Telvanni, the warriors of Redoran and the assassins of both Hlaalu and Morag Tong... Together, they are hated by all cities and he wants to destroy all the other cities.

The blades, they have formed together, a small army of amazing warriors, legends doubt their power for they can cut through whole armies, even with their small fort near Bruma. They are trying to find the next heir to the throne, can they find him and gain support of the other cities to overthrow Ocato?

Mehrunes Dagon has seen his chance, he was banished from Mundas because he was brash.. But now.. Now that Cyrodiil was turning on itself.. Surely he could come in and pick the pieces!

This is where you come in. Will you fight for Ocato and secure the remaining provinces, do you think that with power over the other provinces that the Empire will reign supreme? Or will you fight for Anvil, for revenge and find out who killed the countess? Or will you fight for survival; help the forces of Argonia and Elswyr rule? Or are you going to take King Helseth to be the new Emperor? Leading a new age as the Tribunal rules the world? Or have you not lost hope on a new heir? Then help the blades try and restore order and relight the Dragonfires! Or better yet.. Given up on order? Join the Daedra! Become a member of the reformed Mythic Dawn and kick ass with a snorting Scamp by your side!

Summary of what I wish to do

Replace all weapons, armours, towns and factions in native.
Create 10 races.
Create a map of Cyrodiil.
Create books on the lore (Fluff out the Mod)
Create detailed rooms inside buildings.
Create towns which have more then one part to them.
Create dozens of small ruins which the player can delve into as a sort of dungeon quest.
Create the game as close to lore as I can.
Create these factions:
  • Anvil Alliance (Anvil guard, Anvil pirates, Kvatch Guard, Skingrad Guard)
  • Ocato Alliance (Imperial Legion, Bruma Guard, Chorral Guard)
  • Leyawiin Alliance (Bravil Guard, Leyawiin guard, Elswyr reinforcements, Black Marsh reinforcements)
  • Cheydinhal Alliance (Cheydinhal Guard, King Helseth's army)
  • The Blades (The Blades...?)
  • Raiders (Northern Raiders, Western Raiders, pirates!)
  • Civilians (Farmers, refugees)
  • Daedra (Mehrunes Forces, Mythic Dawn Cultists) (Daedra  <3 Hawt!)
I want to create a siege element to the game, so that you can take over other cities.. Or.. If I can't do this.. I'll just make it so that each Alliance has a certain number of troops/faction strength.

Hmm... I'd really like to say a Good Luck to you. I'm almost 100% certain you'll get sarcastic and nonconstructive comments and criticism.

Edit:

Hmm, only 9 cities, I'm sure you can do better than that. I've never played Oblivion before, so I wouldn't know. I've got to tell you though, 9 cities are gonna be pathetic in the World Map.

Really? How come?

http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,23963.0.html

That thread might be why I'd say so. Also, some people don't like modders making video games into mods, cause why not just play the game itself?

Thats a good idea whoopie, and I've often thought of doing it myself, but I'm going to warn you, I think you're getting in over your head. Some of the stuff you want to do is pretty hard, and probably better left to an experienced modder. I'm a huge morrowind and oblivion player (I mean huge) and after playing the game, I know that the mod would be very very hard to make, and would take a long time. I suggest you learn how to mod first, then come back and try your idea. Or, to sart of the mod, you could learn to model, texture, and add items in-game that look like oblivion items. Thats probably the easiest part of modding in my opinion.

Yes, I am afraid of what Tuckles said is true, But still, I give you my good luck.

Edit:
Omg, Stop posting already!

Are you very good at modeling? Most oblivion weapons are very high detail, and to keep them low poly, with that detail, you would have to only try and use 1-2 objects. Could you handle that?

@Servitor, you mean me? (Apollon)

That's pretty much what I'm intending on doing. Sort of look at like an Iron Dagger and learn how to mod it

And yes.. Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself, but It's not like I'm planning on releasing it anytime soon. So I have a while to get better and get over the obstacles that present themselves.

Oh and I'm not planning on making exact replica's that will be very hard (Trying to do a Dremora Longsword would be a bit hard).

If you want the high-poly models, get the ones from Oblivion, the most useful thing an oblivion mod would be imo is to be able to use them on lower end machines, that and the battle system, but if you feel I'm not skilled enough to make the models, I'm fine with that, I'm pretty busy right now anyway.

I'm not sure you could get the models from them, at least not in most cases.

Unless of course you had the oblivion tes construction set on your computer....

Then you could get them (though you'd probably still have to ask bethesda if you could use them)

Exactly, that's why it's pointless to try to compete with professional models. Besides, I can copy 2-d pics pretty well, I just have no idea on what they look like from different views. I'm pretty sure I can replicate 3D models fairly accurately.

Like I said, not planning on getting the exact look of the weapons, just make them resemble them to the point where you would be able to recognize which is which.

And don't worry, If I was to say you weren't skilled enough I would be getting WAY above my head, I have never used a 3D model system like Wings 3D

@Apollon: I am learning at the moment, so yes I do understand it is harder then it looks.
