An archer's loadout

I am currently playing a monk archer and I am having a blast. One thing I cannot decide on is what weapon to have as my backup? I like 2 quivers of arrows, a bow, and a secondary for my loadout. What is the best secondary weapon?

Well, see, that's the great thing about Mount & Blade. You don't pick a weapon because it's the 'best' or strongest weapon you can afford. You pick what weapon you're most comfortable using.

If it was me I'd pick a two-handed sword, probably a bastard sword, because they're light and fast and I'm comfortable using it.

Widow Maker. But if you mean already in game, then I'd say bastard sword cause they're pretty.

Or, I can do the alternative-
USE TEH EDITAR TOOO CRAETE TEH ULTAMITE WEAPON!!!!!
Yea, that sounds nice. ROFLAMO

Glaives or pikes (ashwood pikes or awlpikes): pretty good foot weapons and can also be used to lance.

Strong Bow, Large Bag of Bodkin Arrows, Large Bag of Bodkin Arrows, Large Bag of Bodkin Arrows.

Who needs a secondary?! They don't stop missile fire, i never run out of arrows (and if i'm close to i retreat and then come back with more!)
I have never used a secondary or seen any use for them, you can take out shield bearers with a headshot the moment they try to take a swing at you, and woe on anyone who doesn't have a shield.

BUT, if you insist on a secondary i'd say a nice Heavy Spiked Mace (i think that's what it's called  ), So you can always take that noble!

oh and by the way, if you want the noble just kill his horse, then take care of the gaurds, then keep doing charge damage untill he's unconscious. No blunt weapons required! (Just a horse!)

Yeah, well, when you get dehorsed there can be problems with no secondary. Because you only have one shot a two handed weapon is good, altough axes are heavy, and swords of war are slow, but Bastard swords are fast and won't get out maneuvered by other weapons at a low lvl. Go the Bastard!!

and swords of war are slow
Swords of War are by no means slow (can't remember exact speed), and IMO its well worth the loss of speed for extra damage and range. Bastard sword is mainly useful if you have a shield, and since you won't, i'd go with the SoW.

The character used two-hand weapons with one hand while on horseback, so it reduces speed and damage.

My current secondary weapon is balanced sword, but sabre or broad sword is good too. I used to try SOW or great axe. They are good too, but I now prefer speed than damage.

So, here's possible secondary weapon choice.

1. Spear and pike: Awlpike and Pike give you good range, reasonable speed and damage as well as be able to do couching. Spears, when hit, always rare the horse up, so it saves your skin when you're de-horsed. It also keep enemy at bay if you used correctly. Drawback is it's rather hard to hit when you're attacking sideways and it's a bit slow compared with other weapons. If you're in to lancing (the deadliest of all attacks), that's your choice.

2. Two-handed weapon: Sword of War and Great Axe are the best choices in this type. They gave more damage and have long range which helps a lot if you're fighting against cavalry equipped with lance/spear (you can attack without the fear of getting couch-lanced) and while on foot. Drawback is since you can use only one hand while you're on horse back, it's sometimes too slow. If you want maximum damage with reasonable speed and range, they're the one.

3. One-handed weapons: Sword, Sabre, Nomad-Sabre and Broad Sword are the best choices. They're quick and have reasonable damage. Drawback is the range. Since they're much shorter than spear, lance and other two-handed weapons, you need to have some skills to get within their range and you're always in danger of getting hit first. When you're un-horsed, you're in a kind of trouble. It is because a horse can 'hit' you when its nose touches you, while you have to strike its chest to 'hit'. that is not a big problem with longer weapon but for one-hand weapon user, it's a kind of nightmare. If you want decent damage with fast attack speed and more than simple bashing, this is your choice.

Now we just need a two-weapon fighting system and/or a double-bladed staff-sword and you have yourself an ultimate weapon, at least on foot.

I have 2 backup weapons used for different situations. The most common load out for me is my bow 2 bags of bodkin arrows and my axe, I use this if i wanna kill. The second load out swaps my axe for a jousting lance and I use this to capture enemies for sale to the slaver or ransoming of a nobleman. It's a hassle with the lance if I lose my mount as I don't have any weapon thats good in close quarters so i have to kill a rider and get a mount again. As my armor is good I don't use a shield

Try using a pole hammer. They can be couched (i think) and they are decent in close Quaters, and have a long range.

Jeez. Polehammer requires 13 strength and is by FAR the slowest weapon you could possibly get...if you can kill top tier units on foot with that dismal thing equipped hats off to you  About the only decent thing about it is that it can be couched to knock out nobles, but the jousting lance is far better at it anyway.

Yes, but the pole hammer is far better than the jousting lance fot close quaters.
I'm just suggesting that it is a good lancing/blunt alternative if getting knocked of your horse is a major concern.

Ah I see what you mean. saves another weapon slot if you re an archer/lancer on a horse already. Valid point but I still dislike that weapon

War bow, 2 bodkin arrows, and a scimater. That's all I need 'cept the sheild I have in my baggage, and extra arrows there too... o___O

I Have many weapons in my inventory. I have a nice blunt weapon to take prisoners, a war bow, a few quivers worth of bodkin arrows, a nice heavy axe for bustin shields, a balanced sword of war, bastard sword, some javelins, an awlpike, a dagger and some other assorted throwing weapons.
But the ones I use in battle most of the time is my sword of war, my bow, and my awlpike.
