Am I the only one who never hires tavern mercenaries in BL?

and this is where the community diverges between wanting additions of features that are not necessarily useful and that would make the whole thing unbalanced but fun.
and those who want balancing everywhere.
I want to say that we forget that we are talking about the single player mode, we are a player against an AI it is already unbalanced in advance, I think that the balancing does not have to be taken as seriously as on the multi, because at this time we do not add anything
and then making your own troop tree isn't that pointless in strategy when you think about it.
In my view they can add what they want. Guitar hero, barber, monkeys, circuits, dance contest, hunting game, sauna.. customizable troop tree, but all that wouldn't change the game mechanic. So in my eyes it is useless code, just filling space on my hard disc.
A customizable troop option wouldn't unbalance the game, in its current state. If you could decide how smart your troops react on the opponent, that can be called "unbalanced". Clothing and stats are nothing compared to the option of changing ai behaviour. Just an example.

Sure, fixing the AI (siege AI RIP) and adding important features like the ability to give commands to your party are the most important things but I gave up on that.

yes the customizable troops are little useless in the gameplay, as for the creation of character (except the choice of stats of course), the personalized banner, the name of the kingdom etc. yet everyone is happy to have them, and to share them

the way the game is setup I'm already betting on some features that will certainly pop up with mods, like troop customization, culture customization, etc. I still think that the map is too small for what the game is trying to achieve, but that's due to the new village mechanics, in fact, that's one of the major issues with BL because it cuts down on a lot of factoring elements when it comes to army strength and noble stakes. Villages are just a ornament, it gives virtually no wealth, if it's raided not much changes, if you boost it to whooping 700 hearths, nothing changes, there are no significant mechanics around them except for the random "noble troop" which ends up being more a pain in the ass than a feature or useful tool (too rare to make significant army composition, and too fragile to survive leveling grind). At the end of the day the best way to get noble troops is by having the "convert criminals to troops" perk, and farm bandits, anything else is sort of a waste of time.

Ah, well, gotta wait for whatever final product they are cooking there, and I'm almost 100% that we'll need mods to really enjoy the potential of the game, vanilla's already taking the same path as Warband/original M&B did, and it's boring. So far the beta is suffering from the same major issue which the original M&B did which is "there's no late game senpai", I hope they have something planned, otherwise we gotta pray for good modders to be active or pop up.

PS: At least in the old games the lords were sort of unique and remarkable, in BL I can't remember who is who at all, mostly the name of the faction leaders, but nobody has any remarkable traits, and behavior seems to be way more random than in WB when it comes to the personality traits. I miss taking butter baths on feasts in Praven with my bud Harlaus, or dealing with that annoying Kunyas dude.

Are you saying you'd be fine if there were no character customisation aside from stat numbers, no custom banners, no custom stuff like that? You make these things out to be 'useless', but do you even know what an RPG is all about?

this game isn't an RPG, it's a Sandbox. But still, the same logic applies.

You could, instead, play Warband, if those are your main concerns.

But TW says on their Steam page it´s a RPG sandbox game?

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is the eagerly awaited sequel to the acclaimed medieval combat simulator and role-playing game Mount & Blade: Warband. Set 200 years before, it expands both the detailed fighting system and the world of Calradia.

they are full of **** it's a misconception, RPGs are something entirely different. The game lacks 100% of RPG "base dough" to be called that, it's a sandbox with RPG elements.

Ah a good rpg of the old days

you did follow the conversation badly, I took these examples to say that indeed they are not necessarily useful for the gameplay but it remains useful in the sense that a player will appreciate having these elements of personalization

Mee to my lord.Single need my kingdom special troops so have to choose the ıtems.Because this my kingdom!

I still say that these elements are useful to gameplay if the game even wants to pretend to be an RPG.

whatever the appearance your character will not influence the gameplay of the game
but I wanted to take it as an example that it's stupid to say that adding a custom troop will also be useless if we have character creation

Regarding the topic. I never use them. They are inferior to faction units, expensive and hard to get in decent number. They lack uniqueness and since You can get other troops stright from the start there's no point to bother with them.
Regarding the general topic about units. I hate the concept of bounding unit types to territory. I didn't like it in Warband and i don't like it here. since You are the one who pays for their upgrades You should be able to decide how to train them no matter where You got the basic T1 units.
An in case of custom troops since player is choosing culture at the game start from available ones i don't see a point in player being sepcial with his own unique troops. For me it would be sufficient if all recruits being trained according to player choosen culture without the need to run across the whole map to get a specific recruit.

However judging from 9 months of EA TW doesn't care about feedback or suggestions. They have their own vision (or mainly somone at the top has his vision since they don't even listen to devs ideas) which they are following and not much can be done with it. Players will like or dislike the final product but it seems nobody cares.

Mercenary Crossbows - Hired Crossbows are pretty good. More skill than sharpshooters at the expense of hand armor, poor boots, and slightly less 1h damage.
