Am I the only one who never hires tavern mercenaries in BL?

Because I like to create my own kingdom with my own equipped troops. Feels more immersive to me. And you see you own troops in each battle you fight.

I always used this feature in any Warband mod which offered it.

The Merc system is horrible rn, it was also horrible in Warband.
Nearly every mod i played (bigger overhaul mods) added Mercenary Camps where you were able to hire dozens of Mercenaries of your liking for a higher price.
I mean imagine you could hire an entire AI Army filled with Mercenaries, and each month you have to bid with other Lords to win them over.
That would truly be a dynamic system. A loosing faction scraps all its gold together to hire a 500 Stack of Soldiers to rescue the last city.
Or you founded a new kingdom and need that army for defense purposes while you try to expand.
All the possibilites....
And that is how i imagine Mercenary armies, not scrapped from 50 city taverns across the world.

yes, mercenary heroes would be great..

What? A custom troop tree would be useless? Kidding?

I would love this feature, sure also not game changing but way more "worth" than the barber.
Useless as in, if the stats are important than most people will go for nothing but top notch units.
And if just looks get changed then its just cosmetics.
So gameplaywise it would be useless or unbalanced.
But in the end it would be fun and immersive and a very welcomed feature by every single player.
I am the leader of a kingdom, I want my own troops with own looks and style to it.

So dw I am 110% for that.

But TW only does the easy stuff, if something is too hard to implement they just get rid of it

But let's not forget about the mercenary clans neither! hahaha They are like a sad joke tbh. Most of those "special troops" they offer are indeed special in the sense of depending upon special needs. Their troops mostly suck, both visually and functionally.

I actually go out of my way to recruit Beni Zilal whenever possible, because they are incredibly legit, out-performing most T6 units at T3 or T4 costs.

Same it is so incredibly stupid that some no name clan gets their very own special troops, with special looks (i like most of them tbh) while we have to sit there with Vlandian, Empire or Battanian units for the entire game.
Unless we go SUPER grindy and start to farm those mercenary troops

I hired the mercs on rp reasons only, but that was in Warband.. when i went to the Mercenary King role, and oly hired mercenaries units, never got factions units

The tavern mercenaries have nothing to offer at all. And why are they all the same Western mercenaries? I liked how PoP made them look extremely mixed, as if they were just a gang of player characters who scrounged up whatever armour pieces they came across.

I actually did the same thing for my mod. Even set up my own faces to make them a very... diverse lot.

I don't think anything will get me to recruit mercs lol

Well tbh, I don't see myself using even my own mercs either. Including them in your army pretty much destroys any sense of uniformity lol.
I think having an army of only the mercs you made would probably be less uninformed then having the common multicultural gang going to beat people up you become in the base game

Not sure why I have forgotten mixed armies are the norm in this game.

Well yeah, vanilla mercs will give you a more consistent look than whatever most players end up doing.

I mean like in the end of any war in the game where you com0letely decimate the enemy they will do the EU4 AI strat of spamming mercs and you'll be fighting like only merc companies like its funny to see the jawwal and the skolderbrotva just charging at me due to seeing a camel and somebody that looks like he'd **** your mom side by side is a bit weird

They've always been the least interesting troops in MnB games (except the Frankish cav in VC) and so I usually don't bother looking very closely at them. There have been a few times when a bunch of the high-tier types (hired blades, mercenary cav) just fell into my lap so I recruited them but for the most part, I've never thought about building a party around tavern mercenaries.
neva. even for test.

70% of what’s suggested or brought up is essentially already in game as the minor factions.

Those just need mild tweeks to get what you want

yup minor factions are the true "mercenary companies" of the game, just a shame TW scraped the minor faction bases idea and didn't implemented more interactions with them like maybe talking to one of their lords to hire a small amount of their soldiers to your warband as mercs instead of their hole clan for example, right now you can only get their unique and interesting troops by recruiting prisoners.

In BL I use em when I get them free from prisoner rescues. I think they're pretty good for tier, but ultimately be replaced by normal units that can reach tier 5.
In warband I'll grab Hired blades sometime to use as shield in a offensive siege, they work hard for the money at few make it through.

and this is where the community diverges between wanting additions of features that are not necessarily useful and that would make the whole thing unbalanced but fun.
and those who want balancing everywhere.
I want to say that we forget that we are talking about the single player mode, we are a player against an AI it is already unbalanced in advance, I think that the balancing does not have to be taken as seriously as on the multi, because at this time we do not add anything
and then making your own troop tree isn't that pointless in strategy when you think about it.
