Am I the only one who never hires tavern mercenaries in BL?

They've always been the least interesting troops in MnB games (except the Frankish cav in VC) and so I usually don't bother looking very closely at them. There have been a few times when a bunch of the high-tier types (hired blades, mercenary cav) just fell into my lap so I recruited them but for the most part, I've never thought about building a party around tavern mercenaries.

You are defnitley not alone with that. Maybe I will use them when we get a penalty for using faction troops against the same faction. Otherwise they don´t offer much flexibilty and are also to expensive(in hiring).

Armed Traders are pretty good at giving you an initial surge of archers. This is particularly true if you’ve moved on to Battania or Aserai lands where archers in the beginning can sometimes be rough to muster.

But after shifting to Tier 1 and merc status, I usually them for cash reimbursement and just concentrate on leveling.

There is also a bug where they read at a lower value if you have discount skills, but charge you full. Not sure which way the bug goes, if they were never meant to get the discount, or just aren’t getting the discount. But it READS that you get it, and then you don’t

I hire them quite a bit now since I have to play on my ****ty laptop and since I have to limit it to 300 units instead of 1k and since not everybody soawns at once sometimes my infantry hets slaughtered and their the quickest way to get more troops

Me too, but i didnt even in warband, soo it doesn´t matter
In warband it was even more annoying since you had to go into the scene hope that there is a merc hire them and leave and that gets annoying quickly not to mention the chance of them no5 spawning or how long it takes to get a decent party with mercs

The Merc system is horrible rn, it was also horrible in Warband.
Nearly every mod i played (bigger overhaul mods) added Mercenary Camps where you were able to hire dozens of Mercenaries of your liking for a higher price.
I mean imagine you could hire an entire AI Army filled with Mercenaries, and each month you have to bid with other Lords to win them over.
That would truly be a dynamic system. A loosing faction scraps all its gold together to hire a 500 Stack of Soldiers to rescue the last city.
Or you founded a new kingdom and need that army for defense purposes while you try to expand.
All the possibilites....
And that is how i imagine Mercenary armies, not scrapped from 50 city taverns across the world.

same, that's because the troops offered in taverns are simply useless 90% of the time. Even in Warband the same would happen, some mods would explore it more cleverly, though.
But let's not forget about the mercenary clans neither! hahaha They are like a sad joke tbh. Most of those "special troops" they offer are indeed special in the sense of depending upon special needs. Their troops mostly suck, both visually and functionally.

Thats quite interesting approach

I almost never hire basic mercenaries. If I want some vladian troops I go to vladian villages/towns. There were unique mercs called thugs but tw removed them.
I recommend mod custom tavern mercs. Adds minor clan troops to taverns for hire so there is much more diversity. Mod can be removed at any time cause doesn't add any additional units to the game

Sadly that will never happen, those things were in mods from 10 years ago and haven't found their way into Bannerlord, so i doubt that they will even consider such a feature in vanilla.

Thats true, sadly.

I've been pointing extremely enriching features that could've been included in Bannerlord since, idk, 2013 when the first announcements came up. They've basically ignored all of those recommendations only really adding some sort of "diplomacy" through a mini-game point system (influence), which to me, sounds terrible.

Well the perfect word to describe bannerlord is indeed "horrible".
Not for a newcomer, i can get why newcomers may find Bannerlord good, but for fans who know what this game could have been, its an absolute let down

Well we had the mercenary camp feature in With Fire and Sword and you could even buy your mercs equipment upgrades and sht. I loved designing my own hussars(that ended up being useless anyway..)

They all like it because they don't know, this happens every time Creative Assembly makes a new title as well.

Nearly all mechanics we have in the game right now are utterly useless. And we still have them, the difference is customizing your troops would be a useless (most likely) but fun feature.
Even if it would just be the design that changes i would be more than happy with that. I don't even need the stats from those weapons, just the looks.
Having a Barber is just... well useless

What? A custom troop tree would be useless? Kidding?

I would love this feature, sure also not game changing but way more "worth" than the barber.

Throwing stones are way more "worth" than the barber, but still i hear somebody, somwhere snivels about that. You have an interesting point of view.

I would like to hear why you would love such a feature though. Besides I find such a feature also useless and not even funny(yeah, the barber is also useless, but that´s not the point now).
