Am I screwed?

I did not wait for any right to rule before I started my campaign to forge a kingdom, only hold one town one castle and two villages. I lost my first minister with the first castel I took and had to appoint a new one.
I can't get any revenue from my town and villages even though I asked my current minister to allocate those to me; could this be because my original minister vanished?
If I cant get income from the places I conquer and hold then whats the point? Eventually I cant go on raiding to make an income and support an ever growing army.

To top it off I did a big no no and appointed one of my commoner companions as vassal and it is hurting my rep with other lords big time, can I undo this?

Perhaps it is time to start over, but it takes so dang long to get even this far and if the no income from towns is a bug then that is pretty much a game breaker to me.

Any suggestions?

You do not get any revenues when your Town/Castle is under siege. You do not recieve income when your villages has been raided recently. I highly recommend to choose your wife as minister or else you will miss a lot of options and opportunities but I assume you did not marry a girl.

You can't take fiefs away from lords. Only possibility is to wait until the enemy takes it. But even then your companion will be a vassal and no longer a companion and you will lose even more realtion on him if you don't give him a fief. You could use TweakMB tool to completly remove the relation penality. You can find TweakMB here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,101731.0.html

Creating your own kingdome is an endgame feature and as far as I can see you are pretty new to Mount & Blade. So don't set your goals too high. Build up your char, train some top tier troops, get good gear, make quests and get good relation with some villages to recruite more soldiers in later game, marry a girl and maybe work as a vassal for some time before starting your own kingdom.

Thanks Morphine THAT was helpful advise.
My Character is female so if I can hook a husband and I make him minister, will it give me the same advantage? I actually figured out what was going on with the revenue stream, I was just so used to the old M&B workings that I did  not notice on my weekly payroll that I did in fact get income from those fiefs; my dumb mistake.
As for the companion vassal flop, would incriminating that companion as a traitor reset my standing with other lords? I don't think that I would want to go that route though, pretty low, but good to know.
What becomes of my vassals if I become one myself to another ruler?
I am doing not too shabby right now but I think I will take your advise and build up more stats before I continue with a kingdom quest. Thanks

I don't believe outing your vassal as a traitor will change the rep of other vassals in a positive manner, in fact I believe it will do the opposite (creates tension amongst them etc.)

IMO you are better off not making your companions vassals, since they have the capability of being the strongest troops in the game, and there are a very limited number of them, whereas you can recruit lords from other factions if you know what you're doing.

Replying to your title: YES.

Starting a kingdom without planning and preparations... not recommended.

You can start your own kingdom? How have I missed this? How do I do it?

Take a keep/castle while you aren't part of a faction, and you will be your own faction, able to name your kingdom and assign vassals fiefs from what you conquer.  In addition to all of your crazy posts about how companions suck, these awesome companions can also become your vassals.

Not recommended unless you want a REAL challenge

I intend to see this character through to the throne, but you are right I will spend more time preparing, maybe even place myself under another monarchs protection for awhile, before I seduce and conquer him

Btw. the tweak adjuster thingy was one of the best suggestions! Must have!

How prepared do I need to be exactly? What preparations must I make? I have a warband of 100 Mamlukes/Knights/Lancers, with 40,000 denars in my coffers and it keeps growing despite my insane army upkeep. Right now I'm trying to help the Sarranid claimant to the throne, having defeated every Sarranid lord at least 5 times in battle, and I have the Sultan himself prisoner, but I still don't win. Oh I misinterpreted the claimant quest info. It seems I have to conquer every single fief, THEN defeat all lords (and caravans.) That's OK, I've only wasted about 10 hours killing lords over and over again. Out of 23 or so lords, only 2 or 3 wanted to join me. This is going to be very tough. I might even have to lower the difficulty, God forbid.

Yes, I lowered the difficulty so I could at least take Shariz and BEGIN the rebellion. I still haven't switched back, because Sarranids and Khergits MADE PEACE so they could both go to war with me. It's NON-STOP fighting all the time, I'm actually tired of the game right now. "Enemies spotted here." "Enemies spotted there." "BLAHBLAH HAS LAID WASTE TO A FIEF." "BLAHBLAH HAS LAID SIEGE TO X." I have 5 vassals on my side now, 2 of whom joined us out of their own free will, but they don't do anything at all. They all have around 30 men, and the first thing they do is ride as far into enemy territory as possible and get themselves captured. I've also given the 3-4 fiefs I've taken to some of these vassals, yet it says that they have no fiefs, and the fiefs have no owners? How can that be? Oh and what's up with not getting any garrisoned troops in the captured towns and castles? How am I supposed to fight Sarranid Sultanate and Khergit Khanate at the same time all by myself and still find troops to sufficiently garrison these fiefs? Do I have to do everything by myself? Not to mention how slippery these enemy lords are, I almost never capture them. I have the Sultan, 3-4 Emirs and 2-3 Noyans locked up in Shariz but they just keep coming. I noticed it's possible to ask Khergits for peace, but how am I supposed to find Sanjar Khan and defend my lands from his vassals at the same time? This is a damn nightmare. I'm already 100 days into the rebellion so I don't feel like loading an old save.

Yes Jarl G. what you describe is pretty much standard. Your preparedness is only partially dependent on your troops strength, almost more important are your lordly relations.
That is what I meant by I need to prepare more; this means sucking up to as many lords as you can by doing quests for them. When you have their disposition up high enough around 30 and level up your persuasion as much as you can, it will be much easier to recruit them to your side.
With more lords on your side you can dispatch them to guard your most important assets so you don't have to respond quite so much yourself.
It is a time consuming game I know and I don't care for starting over either once you spend so much energy and time into building up one character. At least you did not make the blunder I did by appointing a commoner companion as one of my Vassals; that really screwed my relations with all other lords even the ones that like me.  Now THAT is a challenge

I guess the only strategy then is to imprison them all. Feels like they respawn with new armies in a day. I've already imprisoned my brother-in-law.

they respawn their armies at ANY castle,so if you let them have ONE castle, you will have to fight them again and again, until you lay siege to that castle,in one EPIC F**** AWESOME  battle, because probably they all will be there. so keep conquering every castle you can,to weaken their garrisons, then hunt one lord by time. that's how i did it in my unified save. Don't know if it's the right choice anyway. sorry for engrish ._.

Tweak MB is so cheap in my opinion =P. A REAL challenge is playing at 100+ difficulty and THEN trying to create a kingdom. Although, with the accuracy of ranged units and throwing weapons for the AI, you're pretty much stuck playing commander or ranged during fights. Throwing axes are anti everything, I swear.
