Allow a player to train his own horse...

After all, it was not uncommon (I'd say, more then common) practice in Middle Ages to raise and train your own warhorse.
Allow player to name it, develop it's abilities on a stat screen (like one of NPCs), armor it... that'll add a whole dimension into the game! I guess it should be trained at stables (where horses could be healed too) for a price, each next level costing more then the previous... (With hefty sums for levels above 10... up to more then a full-scale charger, I think) or allow player to train it himself, but that’ll require trainer skill and quite a bit of time... or not, since it may be exploited. *shrugs*
Each 2 levels gained should increase horse difficulty by 1 (So, level 10 horse should have difficulty of 5, level 20 - difficulty of 10. But see below about it).

Stats:
All stats should start at 6.

Strength - allow horse to use heavier armors, adds to charge stat, and allows training of skills like iron flesh (Increase hit points just like one of NPCs. Base hit points should be higher for horses... I guess like 70) and trample (see below).

Speed - will affect speed directly, and allow to learn Stability skill - it will make it easier to shoot and throw stuff from this horse, cumulative with horse archery.

Maneuver - will affect maneuverability directly. Will allow learning Controllability skill that will decrease difficulty by one for each skill level.

Horse armor:

Leather(or padded). Should provide about 10 to defense, and charge. Minimum of 8 STR.

Chain. Should provide about 15 to defense and charge, but - 1 to speed. Minimum of 10 STR.

Plate. Should provide about 20 defense, charge, -2 to speed and cost a LOT. Minimum of 12 STR. (Not too realistic, but oh well).

Charge stat should be calculated like Str + Armor.
Trampling damage should be Charge / 2 + (Charge / 2) * Trample_skill / 10.
That's blunt damage, at speed like 8+. If your horse has higher speed - more damage. (At full speed, of course).

Well, that will allow player to train his own warhorse the way he sees fit... A light-footed steed for a horse archer, a heavy charger for a warrior, capable of trampling enemies into the ground, or a more balanced solution. And extra money hog will not hurt too .
Of course, I’m aware about ideas being more complex -> having less chance of being implemented... But in such a game, such feature is nearly a must, I think. At least, for the full game.

hi

i like it...
but i think the player could still use "buying" horses to spent more money
with the "training" feature for horses would this be removed...(if the horse isnt taken by enemys or so)
and meybe someone like to spent money for horses too

but i think its a good idea...

greetings

Good ideas. The only problem I see is the relatively slow pace of time in the game. I don't think I've played through a hundred days, and that's no time to train yourself a warhorse, even if you spent all your days doing so. It would require years and years, and I don't think anybody wants to spend the first thousand days or so training their warhorse from dawn to dusk.

On the other hand, the player character does change from a loser into a killing machine in a few weeks, so perhaps your horse would gain experience similarly to your companions.

But I totally agree on buying equipment for horses. That way there would be more ways to spend your money. Armour would reduce mobility and maneuverability, but would help keep the horse alive and increase charge bonuses.

Yes! Allow us to buy horse equipment. I think 1-2 slots should do it. 1 slot for armor and 1 slot for horseshoes. Armor increases damage mitigation and charge/trample, while shoes can upgrade menueverability/speed. It would work just as well with 1 slot for armor and that covers everything for the horse.

Well, hmm, horse shoes increasing manuerability reeks of Diablo
Armor would be more then enough, I guess.

i luv this idea SOOO MUCH! im a hunter, lvl 36, almost 37, and i only use horse and mostly bow, almost never do i get on the ground, and balors speed thng, thats awsome! making it more stable so i can own better! my archer profence. for bow is maxed out! and i wanna be able to kill with better acuracy.
