On mount and blade warband about 2 different allied vassals were with me when i was to attack a castle and when the siege begins there soliders arent in the battle.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

This is my problem too.  I've asked them to follow me and they've agreed, but they don't join the battle when I assault.  There doesn't seem to be an option to order them to follow.

Same thing happened to me the only way they would join me was if I was a marshal.

The Same problem with M&B, when you are a vassal to..say.. Swadia, and they are sieging a castle and you rush in thinking you can help, yet it gives you no option too....

A similar issue really made me angry back in old MB -- I was a marshal, and my castle was getting assaulted, so I took 5 allied lords over to go defend it, but when I got there, all it let me do is siege-defend against the ~6 enemy lords by myself, while my allies presumably stand back and laugh.
Sad to see they didn't touch up this kind of stuff for Warband... probably because it's not the kind of thing that looks shiny on a feature list, but dammit, it would help the actual gameplay tremendously

This is normal (well in the game mind)

Only lord that likes you join you to help , this of course should be changed since you are marshal/ king they should obey. I mean , i know the ones who dislikes the king don't respond to the summon but when they are close to him they act normally.

Try persuading them to besiege the fortress. I think currently, they are in "follow you" mode, while you want them to be in "siege mode."

That's odd. In old M&B they'd join me, and in Warband my allied lords and vassals still come to my rescue. Maybe you jumped into the battle before they were within range? Maybe the size of the enemy army caused your vassals to run. It happens a lot as I've seen; every time the Rhodoks besiege Shariz, the Sarranid army gathers and repels them. It takes forever though as the lords switch between running away and moving in to the attack and only rarely do lords engage one another, they just do that little dance around each other. Try waiting for your army to stop moving (within range of the enemy army) and then engage.

I was thinking the same thing Dent.  Unless you are a horde of Nords charging out of the hinterlands you may wish to hold up and let them engage first; running to "their" rescue...discretion is the better part of valor sometimes.

Makes you look good with the other lords too, if you happen to need the faction boost.

This aint EA, this is an indie company that is already doing great work by releasing patchs so fast.

Coding AI as alway been and alway will be a nightmare, for every company, unless we (humans) make some breaktrough discover in that particular field of research.

For sure i really hope they will improve it (i really hate sieging a castle for 50-60 hours till that siege tower is build, then to see that AI lords that had followed me leave about a few hours before the tower is built... ) but for sure this aint related to "shiny feature list", i prefer they dont do anything that might cause other bugs to happen...

Exactly.

Go to the lords and go, "I would like to suggest an action", and tell them, "There is a castle that can be easily taken, go to: CASTLE NAME"

If you have a good relationship with the lord, they'll siege it.

i've had it go both ways, if they're 'followin' me then they did not join. if i started a campaign and had them all following me, it worked fine. i had 8 armies of 200+ troops with me, and they joined the siege on a campaign

in translation "follow me" does not = attack/defend (tho it should!)
"EVERYONE come kick ass with me" = attack/defend

it'll be fixed, no doubt - very annoying tho

Yes, but if they do siege the castle, you dont get the honor of taking it (i dont mean honor points, but increased chances to be awarded the fief).

On the other hand, if you do help the lord(s) to take the castle, you will gain reputation with them (if you are successful) if you speak to them (as you should do after every successful battle you help a lord).

To help a lord to take the castle, you have to wait until he actually launch its assault, so you might have to wait a bit until the fight start to join it (good time to read a book, in game  )

Sorry for bumping such an old thread but this is totally relevant to what is happening to me.
I'm a vassal in a kingdom with a big army (+130) and I would like to have an allied vassal (+200 men) from my faction help me with a siege. I have a great relation with the vassal (69) and he always accept everything I ask.

But when I choose the option "there is a forteress that can be easily taken, go to:", the vassal answers "where" and my character always automatically says "Never mind". I can't even choose a fortress/town.

Does anyone already had that problem ?

I'm also having a lot of trouble getting vassals to help me attack enemies "on the road". It is easy to join a battle that is already hapenning, but you can't have someone backing you up when you decide to enter a new battle, even if that vassal is following you with his army.
For example, with that same vassal, there is an enemy king with 240 men close to us. But I cant tell the vassal to attack him, I always have to go alone and be numerically inferior. The enemy king faction and my faction are "hateful".

If there is no solution, maybe some mods add those features to native ?

Thanks for the help

(playing on warband v1.154)

I also have this problem right now. I have told 3 vassals to siege a castle but I got there first to initiate  the siege, they are right next to me but won't join in. Its very frustrating... If I tell them to siege and join them, then its basically handing the fief to the leader on a silver plater.

Really wish they would have balanced things out in this game more by now..

If you lead vassals then they will join you - simple enough - if not then why to hell would they risk lives of their men in siege only to support someone that they won't even dare accompany in field?

But they will join the othe vassal if they initiate the siege even though they may be rivals.

I'll just have to take the castle myself.. It isn't hard. If anyone is wondering of a good strategy then what I do is let about 10 men run up the ladder before me to soak up the initial aggro, then run up and take out all the archers along the walls and in towers as quick as possible. This makes it really easy for the men and cuts losses down immensely!

Well they won't help their rival because he must be marshall to order him to do so and he won't care about marshall "because i fear he will lead us to disaster".

Of course he could join siege if you persuade him to do so but it is not normal thing.

Also do not aim to take castle but the city, persuade a lot of lords to besiege one, then help them getting it - town now will be in your kindom but it will be low on garrison so it will ba taken back, then you can alone get it for yourself or with help of few friends/lesser lords.

Nice Idea about the towns.. I thought about that once or twice but wasn't sure if the town gets auto garrisoned.. But after taking a few castles myself now I know they don't! is it not possible that one of the enemy vassals will garrison it right after?

Cheers
