How in the world do I make an alliance in this game? It seems like it is impossible.

Sometimes bandits and looters and such have captured peasants. When your companions defeat these groups they have the option to take on these captured peasants as new troops which they always do, putting them over their troop limit and causing their troops to desert until they're under the limit again. It needs to be fixed.

Player kingdoms aren't fully implemented yet and haven't worked since the game came out in EA.

Going to be a long time before they get to it, other things as a priority first.

Is there a mod which keeps Companions from doing this? Taking on peasants and/or taking on troops that cause overflow?

It was fixed in 1.3.0.

No, in the week since you brought this up they have not fixed the entire end game yet.

Well do you know if there is a way to dismount mounted units. I am doing a playthrough of only ground units, to get the real Viking experience.

just open the commands and press mount when you have mounted units selected. i think its f6 but im sure you'll figure it out
