Yeah, I support 7-8 hits for arrows.

Damage reduction will certainly be the best pick in the current state of the game because everything dies when an arrow breathes on it.
Agreed, other buffs would be mostly wasted since even a tier 2 or tier 3 archer can do 1/3 of your health if you don't have a tier 6 armour equipped or stack large amounts of health buffs from perks. Hell, even with buffs to survivability in general, just because of how the game is designed, additional survivability is the best possible buff to take unless there is a banner that increases map movement speed or decreases casualty chance. This could only be changed by making higher tier troops easier to recruit which then also makes the game significantly more tedious due to the AI also recruiting from the same pool, or making mercenaries much better and more numerous (only if the AI can't/wont recruit troops from taverns).

I hope you are not thinking about noble troops?
If yes, then no thanks. Those should remain rare (there are already too much of them).

No, I'm thinking mercenaries only. God knows we get more noble troops than we need already. As I explained, increasing the recruitment rate of even normal troops makes the game significantly more tedious by having newly defeated lords amassing a just as strong army in 3 days.

I like banner to make the battles look better and to give a morale boost, but I don't like to have banners in SP that give magical buffs to troops. There are already to0 many perks that do that.
Units should have high accuracy because they have good equipment and a lot of experience, not because their captain gives a magical bonus, for all we know he is just assigned to the formation so you can't even RP that this particular captain has been training with the units for a long time. Same goes for banners and other skills related to battle efficiency.

Exactly this...

I hate MP's passive perks which doesn't fit in with what M&B repesents and now in SP applying magic bonuses beyond a proper morale system (morale effect, fatigue, fear, inspiration, etc...). Between the chewy application of cloth physics (especially in spear heads) and those magic buffs... skeptical fear is in my body.

Thanks for the informative work and for taking the time to translate the interview; very good work as always. A big hug @CaptainFracas

Very nice video. Bannerlord is finally getting released but sadly, there is not much to get excited about :
- Banners seem useless from what we have seen in the video, but having said this, they are very well designed
- No diplomacy, which means no alliance, no plots, no affinity with factions or lordss and that, is really really sad. I cannot imagine a medieval sandbox where diplomacy doesn't exist
- No real upgrade out of smithing, I still can't get what is the point with smithing
- No feasts, nor flavour elements that would have enriched the gaming experience
- ...

Am I forgetting something ?

This will forever be the most disappointing thing about this game. It's so weird.

I feel anyone who doesn't have a speed-run campaign hack and slash playstyle will quickly come to find the game bland because these elements are so lacking.

Did you ask Duh about diplomacy or NPC interaction? I wonder if they would just walk away without saying anything like they do in these forums, would be awkward

I'm also really looking forward to the tactical aspect of the banners.
It feels like there is plenty of potential (both native and modded).
I'm just worrying about how the AI will be good at managing it:
Let's say an enemy infantry formation spawns with half the number + banner. They all die and the banner drops. What will happen on every reinforcement tick? Will the AI send a soldier alone to try to grab the banner? Or decide to gather more troops before trying to reach the fallen banner? Will it be able to evaluate and decide if the banner is worth the effort to be taken back?
Or maybe it will be just a simple distance check (if a soldier of that formation is close enough, then he will go for the banner).
Like every new feature TW has added recently, I expect it to be conceptually cool, needlessly deep in complexity, but half baked and only partially functional in actual gameplay.

There will probably be a complex AI decision making process whether or not to pick up the banner; and that decision making process will probably break the AI in some way half the time.
or making mercenaries much better
Yeah, I would like to see some mercenaries get Tier 5 troops. The Last Legion, Ghilman and Skolderbroda are supposed to be elite warriors. But their troops only go up to T4.

And if you meant generic tavern mercenaries then I agree with that too, though they're more garbage due to their excessively high cost and terrible equipment.

I honestly couldn't be bothered with a stacking 6% increase in polarms VS mounted archers on my companion with a banner (I'm guessing the buff here), on top of a 4% increase in shield wall for infantry on another companion (exisiting mechanic), therefore removing their shield and having them die in battle, especially after finding out so many of the Kingdom Policies don't work.

I wanted a more intricate game like so many others, but I feel like this is not the way to do it. It feels battle-royal-capture-the-flag-like, probably more suitable for MP, not SP (especially seeing it just magically sticking in the ground standing up after it falls which is stupidly jarring).

I wanted more diplomacy, heck, more dialogue with random townspeople would have been better imo. There's already a perfectly good mod that's adds banners to your troops, whether you want 10, 20, 30 etc etc, and it looks slick. That's all we wanted, and we had it. Why spend so much time adding this magic banner (which will no doubt break the banner mod) and all these perks when you could have been doing one of the 500 things the community has be begging for for so long. You even had a list someone made for you to add to the game! Just look at the list!!! Bruh I can't even with ya'll. Get your heads out of your ***/sand!!.

All in all, I can't wait for Taleworlds next 16 updates of them exclusively reworking the banner buffs (which no one asked for) and somehow breaking every mod in the process.

EDIT:

I want to just develop on my original point about not bothering with the mid-maxing of these buffs. I can tell pretty easily if I am going to win a fight against another army when playing on bannerlord difficulty, because the AI in battles are extremely predictable.

I could learn what buff each of my companions have and set them as a troop lead and get various buffs to that troop type. Now when I am leading an army with other lords, I should switch out those troop leaders because these new clan leaders have better buffs - and that's a bloody pain.

Now your adding another buff factor to the game that I have to think about, fine whatever, I probably won't bother with it from mid game onwards. But that's isn't going to change my mind about whether or not I am going to fight another lord or not, because I have NO IDEA what the other lord has as buffs? He/she could have the exact same 8% here and 3% there, completely negating the whole thing (and you might say well with these buffs you won't lose as many troops maybe, but the enmy has buffs which could negate that AND why would I care? I have essentially an infinite amount of money in the game from about 3 hours in, even without using smithing). I base on whether or not I am going to fight them on what troops they have and how many. Having magical perks from a banner isn't going to change my mind, because again, idk what the opponent's perks are.

Ah, the TotalWar-isation of Mount and Blade. Let them turn this game into a console arcade and be done with it. Who needs dialogues and RP mechanics?

If that would mean to get a control over battles like in Total War, even the simplified last titles, I would accept losses at the RP side (which was never a strong part in M+B). Seems we get more of "none of both", however.

Honestly, I'm not against the idea of magical buffs if these banner buffs aren't just randomly distributed to AI lords but rather are selected according to their army template to make them more specialised and distinguishable. What definitely needs to happen when a formation loses its banner and couldn't pick it back up in say, 5 or 10 seconds is a large morale shock (15/20 morale damage) along with the loss of the banner bonus.

Why then not just play total war?

Higher accuracy doesn't bother me, I can buy "the guys are able to concentrate better because of high morale/motivation" or something.
Higher resistance to getting hit, though, is a bit harder to believe.
