Sergeant
I had a case of chronic depression when I was in high school, here are a few albums that became my favorite things to listen to ever since as a result:

ALBUMS
Tumbleweed Connection by Elton John
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Comes A Time by Neil Young
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes

SONGS:
Desperado by The Eagles
Nothing From Nothing by Billy Preston
Peace of Mind by Boston
Synchronicity I & II by The Police
Madrigal by Rush

Post yours that come to mind. This thread was made in mind of the "Depression" thread, noticed most gamers and posters on TW have some experience with it, so post your music when these situations have come to mind! They can be mending, comfort, or cynical feeling, or whatever you want.

Have you listened to Solitude Aeturnus? They're another great doom metal band.
They also have Robert Lowe singing. (Granted the version I linked has Messiah Johan Längqvist singing IIRC)

Or just anything with Ian Curtis

Certainly all JD's songs have a gloomy aspect but I find some of them quite uplifting to honest. Granted Ian himself said that all of his lyrics are 100% subjective, but I just thought 24 Hours is one of the more gloomier songs.

All of their music is amazing though.

I'm surprised no one mentioned The Wall. Makes me want to kill myself if everything isn't perfect.

M83 has the greatest music for sad times. Most of their music, especially anything that isn't the new one has this looming sense of sadness that just keeps going and going, but it's in a hopeful way. Just do it, you'll understand.

Aye, The Wall always gets a lot of plays when I'm down. As do the Manic Street Preachers, especially Postcards From A Young Man.

Candlemass is good, in addition to Solitude, I also enjoy Bells of Acheron.

For purposes of the thread, I tend to listen to Nightwish.

Nightwish-Amaranth

Listen to any Crippled Black Phoenix. Really. Some are a little more upbeat, but generally they are all slow songs.

Example: Operation Mincemeat. Incidentally, that video is part of my CBP playlist. Feel free to steal.
