Here's a laundry list of things I think would be interesting to mess with:
1. Add sensory systems.
-Hearing and Vision are fairly trivial tasks to equip the AI with. Games like Splinter Cell and Thief really make good use of this. You don't even need anything that fancy just some scheme where they are evaluating limitied data from the environment rather than being explicitly told where to go. This way you can get rid of the magic string that compels both forces towards each other. That really ruins the experience as I find myself just watching which way my troops orient and head that way.
2. Archers should prefer the high ground and/or cover.
-It makes more sense for them to tend toward where they have maximum visibility and protection.
3. Archers should make more effort to stay out of melee range.
-This was suggested in another thread but it bears reiterating
4. Horses need a bit of autonomy
-They just don't seem 'alive'...they don't spook, run off, or make minor corrections to their course like a real horse would.
5. Melee units should space out a little more
-They tend to clump up and the models start to phase through each other. To me, it would make more sense to give my axe-wielding comrde a little space to, uh, swing his axe with lopping my precious parts off.
6. Morale should be a factor in battle
-It would be cool to have the enemy run from me when they get really stomped. Ditto for my troops when they take heavy losses.
that's it for now, Keep of the good work.
