AI needs better combat footworks

Any one who have spent more than a few hours in the game knows that the current AI fighting style is very dull. Not only their combat footwork isn't smart, but they are extremely passive, making players feel like we're superman fighting dumb children. If you ever tried sending your companion with 160+ athletic, 260 two handed word, with top tier gear against 5-8 looters, you will know what I mean. My companion will stand there and get surrounded and bash to the head to death. If we won the battle, he would never be able to chase down the looters, despite the superior speed advantage.

Please chip in what you can suggest, and I hope TW will improve this. Thanks!

I am not dealing with any kind of combat / mission stuff. I see people sometimes mention me in similar posts (OP of mamelukes / archers or other combat side problems) but I cannot do anything about them. Fyi.

Thanks for your reply on a Saturday. Who should I tag to notify such issue or suggestion in combat?

Since I grab a hold of you atm, can you help us look into the combat deaths happening in the Nov 25 hotfix? NPC are dying in combat, and it is hard to play on since there's no where to disable such feature. Thanks!

I leave this here...

Ai neither keeps room, nor pivots, nor feints, nor shieldbashing, nor kicks...

Ah, one of my personal gripes. Polearm thrust speed... Something that should be the quickest move is somehow slower that swinging a sword in arc. It makes no bloody sense.

I really laughed at this.

Also thanks to the player for changing the fight pattern a few times.

What footwork needs is that apart from the mentioned stuff above, the floating walking feeling needs to be fixed.

When a single or handful of units are running, I do not feel the ground below them. They are running robotically, at the same speed, without staggerings, without a jerky feeling when turning. It is as if they are floating.

Yes, that's good way of describing it. I had a siege battle yesterday at a castle and the AI was fighting in what felt like sectors, if you cross into the sector the AI comes after you, but if you don't the AI runs off. It's like they are on puppet strings, I wish TW luck with this, it's a freaking mess.

You want a good laugh? Go battle with Aserai or Khuzait nobles who aren't warriors. They will just yolo into your shield wall in the first ten seconds of the match and then die. Not their troops. Just them. One person on a horse.

What I have seen from AI is that they sometimes act superhuman but most of the times on 1v1 combat they are dumb.
But honestly for me, in battles, this is not a huge issue. I wouldn't want everyone to fight like amazing fighters, that wouldn't be gamewise realistic. In battles, even experienced soldiers can do mistakes and die stupidly. Same goes for the player, when your horse is dead in the middle of battle - if you fell behind enemy lines but close to them, you are basically dead unless you grab another horse.

Regarding your instance about companion, I think that's solely related to formations. Formations do make AI act dumb. For example, if you say shield wall, they are not fighting but simply raising their shields and expecting this hell soon to be over, even while getting stabbed from ass, they are not showing much reaction. And your companions can die easily because of the pointless-armors in the game, which was discussed several times. I think TW gonna check that out since it's strange to see that one looter can kill your tier 5 unit.

I'm not saying that AI is great. AI still doing stupid things like locking only to the player in certain circumstances which allows them to be slaughtered. Or other weird `errors`. But honestly ( and feel free to step in and say otherwise ) compared to Warband, I see a fairly good improvement in combat and tactic AI. Battles are less "line up, lemme shoot you all" compared to Warband. Or less "lemme go backwards while swinging my sword at you so that you can die until I bump on a tree or do something stupid". Although this chase-spread stuff is newly added. So perhaps TW can improve the AI behaviour in the future. But rather than saying combat AI is bad, I think clearly explaining what they should do instead would work for TW.

Never look at your character while walking/running. The walling animation looks like your character has a birth disorder that gave him the weakest legs in existence.
He never walks straight up but more like a raptor

I did that mistake and now cant unsee it
The legs are always bent forwards, who the hell runs or walks like that

Without a doubt, music is chosen to bring out some smiles  .
However, despite its comical side; I hope the devs will finally fix this kind of AI problem in the near future.

You are not alone, here is a thread about it:

What a rollercoaster of emotions, i went from "yay not the only one" to "they see the problem" right to "they not gonna do much about it"

@Terco_Viejo Thanks for the signature.

Well... definetly we don't want a dark souls like game, simply because a battle cant be funny if you must defeat 250 final bosses.

But atleast cover basics is a must. You shoudn't be able to dodge everything with footworks, atleast if you arent Floyd Mayweather, but we don't have that perk.

In order to make useful deployment before battle, formations, make a balance team and not just spam 150 archers and few soldiers to win all battles... AI need to be more than perma spam.

But when the devs fix the AI dumb flaws, promise me you'll remove it... :iamamoron:
