AI doesn't cheat!

[edit]: This was a misunderstanding. I thought saddle horses were slower than they really are, and I also thought you can do a couched lance only with a horse speed of 9. My bad.

[edit#2] Also, I'm pretty badass with the typos at the moment.

Subject: AI Cheats!

I've been supposed to post this many, many times but I just haven't remembered to. This happened to me just a while ago about the fourth time, so here I go.

Here's the deal.

After some stupid mistakes with the new economics of Caldaria, I finally got myself enough money to buy a decent horse(warhorse) but with the loss of nearly all my money.

Well, off I go, Searching for trouble with my pitiful group of 9 caravan guards. I didn't get far, since I ran into a group of khergit raiders almost immediately after I left the town.

In the fight my horse took some bad hits, but I thought it would survive since there were only three raiders left and one was getting his **** ruined by my surprisingly lucky caravan guards(only 1 had died, 2 laid unconsious). Then my horse got crippled. One of the surviving raiders killed it with a couched spear. I got extremely pissed off since that horse had cost me almost anything.

oh boohoo. big deal. My fault for not paying enough attention to that bastard charging behind me, right? WRONG

THAT SON OF A ***** HAD A -****ING- SADDLE HORSE

Yes. He used couched spear with a saddle horse. I shot the bastard off his horse and checked. Yup, just an ordinary saddle horse. Not spirited.

Well luckily this couldn't get much worse. Or could it? After I had killed the bastard I just stood there in disbelief, when suddenly the surviving ******* I was chasing in the first place got a lucky shot with his bow. In my head. When I was not wearing a helmet. With the normal damage-setting.

The rest of the battle was decided by the extremely random autofight.
Hmm.. 6 caravan guards vs. one khergit raider(my men at least managed to kill the other one before I got hit) Seems pretty obvious to me.

But I was surpised again, I actually won. I was left with a group of 1/4 caravan guards though.

'nuf said. I'm off to do something else so that my blood pressure lowers down to 200 so I can start thinking clearly again

I don't get it.

IIRC, saddle horses have a higher speed rating than warhorses, hence him being able to catch up with you. And I think speed 8 is the minimum for being able to couch on flat terrain, not sure though. No cheating that I'm aware of.

You can couch at much lower speeds than 8.

I think ordinary saddle horses do 7. I'm not sure what a warhorse does but it's probably 8 or 9. If you had recently turned or something it's very possible he would be going faster.

The reason why he caught up with me was the ******* with a bow I was chasing. I ran into his horse that made my horse rear up and that was the moment when the dirty cheater stuck his spear in my horse.

Saddlehorses don't go faster than warhorses.

Then you had stopped. So what's the cheat? You can spear Swadian knights in one go with a lance on a saddle horse. I've done it. Why can't a bandit?

Ok this was my mistake. I thought saddle horses were slower than that. Apparently they are as fast as warhorses. Also I remembered that you needed at least speed of 9 to do couched. I remembered wrong.

I suppose you can do couched lance with a steppe horse, since they did that too?

Anyway, my mistake.

Nice story, but please tone down your language. Glad you are enjoying the game.

.700 is a bit buggy but definitely a step in the right direction.

well with horses it doesn't but what about shot and thrown weapons? methinks they have some sort of echolocation or something since they can accurately shoot through fog, darkness and, trees (apart from a megastrong arm and unearthly accuracy)

Yep. that's true. The AI doesn't cheat with the horses, but cheats with the missile weapons. The good thing is the same applies to my xbowmen - they usually kill enemies when they are just a pixels on the screen:smile:
About the horses - I am horse archer on a spirited hunter (speed 11) and no one can catch me. I even have enough time to stop, to aim carefully in the head and to run away if I didn't made a killing blow.

I do that as well, it's only cheating if they do it when the enemy isn't even visible. But yeah, the AI has radar. Big deal?
