I think that African units could be a really cool edition to the game. Too often in medieval and historical video games, the African civilizations are over looked, when in reality some of their civilizations, like the Berbers and Moors, were vital to the development of the world as we know it. Obviously they wouldn’t be called Berber or Moor or even African, but a clearly African inspired faction would be very appreciated.

If you mean black Africans, they would not be at the same technological level with other factions and lack high quality weapons and armour.

The idea that African technology was not up to par with european technology prior to the introduction of gunpowder is a common misconception which was spawned and promoted by racist who believed Blacks were naturally inferior. Africans were alongside arabs as forerunners in mathematics and science

To add to this, the Mali were absolutely at least part of the inspiration for the Aserai. The Mali empire was one of the wealthiest in human history. Although it's hard to know exactly, Mansa Musa, a Mali sultan/emperor, is widely regarded to be one of the single wealthiest individuals ever.

There is an account from history about Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca, where he was said to have just given large amounts of gold to many of the poor he encountered along the journey.

The Aserai are clearly inspired but i would like i VISIBLY and CULTURALLY African faction based on civilizations such as Aksum and the Nok people. Both of which had the same technology as the other medieval people at the time.

It's 200 later from Bannerlord's timeline though. And I'm not sure if they had as much unique weapons and armour as other cultures. I can't name any African sword.
Well women also weren't leading raiding parties, let alone clans in a patriarchal dominated society, yet that is an element of the game. There are also several earlier empires that were very successful Iron Age civilizations such as Eritrea and Djenna Djenno. And there are hundreds of African weapons you have just never seen them because no one puts medieval africans in anything

Aksum and Ethiopia are the places to draw inspiration from. Distinct, significant, interesting, and still unrepresented.

The 1800's are calling, or is it just me?

Even if that was true, it's not like Calradia isn't already a fantasy land, with iron age celts fighting 1200's Normans and 1100's Byzantines.

no one puts medieval africans in anything

Amen.

They can't add them untill Mount and Blade 3 anyways and we will probably not be alive when it comes out, so It's pointless to argue.

And also Africans did not use swords as much as other cultures. Like the mongols, they relied more on the bow with deadly accuracy. They did however have and could make swords, but long knives called Simi's were more common. Think of a machete wielding warrior with a bow and deadly precision who can run as fast as your horse.

True.

But I do like the idea, and for the fictional setting, why not?

But as far as the real world, the majority of black Africans were separated from Europe by physical distance and the Sahara.

Except for western and northern africans such as the eritrea and somalian empires on the horn

Prior to 1500 Africans were basically up to speed with Europeans. Then the mongols came and f*****d everything up

This is quite a bit late, from the Mahdist rebellion in Sudan, around the 1800's, but the quilted armour the horse and the two men are wearing is a long tradition in the area around Napata and upper Nubia.

The Benin Empire during the Middle Ages. As you can see, quite unique and distinct cultures, and they're not even related. There's an ocean of cultures, material and otherwise, no one ever thinks about when it comes to these kinds of games. At least Total War Attila added Aksum as a DLC.

I don't see why we can't keep arguing. We said "it'd be cool", and your answer was "they were technologically inferior", which is very debatable, and "I don't know African military culture"; which is not their fault, it's yours; and also, "pointless to debate, since it's not happening", which... eh?

Exactly the game is in early access, it very well could happen. Also i just made this account but i have an image of an African knight with armour on horseback from the 1400s

Even if they wanted to add an African faction devs have to change the whole map to add a new faction. And IRL Africans had borders with only Arabs and if they put them under Aserai It would be so easy for them to destroy Aserai since there would be no one else to attack them.
