Is it worth upgrading my refuge the final 10000? I find I only use it to train low level troops. The rest of the bennies I can get in town. Also I notice a lot of people battle on mounts. I like using an ax and being part of the shield wall and since I cant rundown anybody, I use a bow to pick them from behind when they are running away. So my question is which will give better results? Im playing 1.04beta

All depends on you. If you are not having a problem with getting the troops you want, there is no need to train them. I have used my refuge two ways. You can put it in one place and build it up to get the benefits as some of the people you can hire at your labor are better than in towns. Or, you can use it as a portable site to off load troops at 1/2 price -- yea it costs to tear it down and put it up, but if you want to build up an assault force and garrison near a target it works nice.

As for how to play again up to you. I like being mounted, allows heavy armor and when the enemy breaks I can get easy kills to help me level. But, I like using a bow too, and you cannot do that on horseback. Everything is a trade-off. If you like being in the thick of it, and know how to survive there, well keep at it. I don't like it mainly for the reason you mention -- I hate it when they run and I cannot chase them due to fatigue and armor.

You could go mounted near the battle, dismount, fight on and when they break you could  whistle to call your horse and purse them

I have tried it, but often my horse is harder to run down than the enemy, hehhehe

should work now we have a *call horse* command. If not it needs some tweaking (horse should run to you and stay put)

Actually I use a horse just to travel the world map because it looks better than just walking around with other lords who have horses. I have used it to get to the main battle then dismount but when you whistle for him it takes the horse forever to finally get to you. by then they're fading off the map. Easier just to fire off a bunch of arrows. Im just trying to figure ways to increase my kill count since Ive discovered Im behind the eight ball compared to other gamers here. I started a new game and Im trying to be more aggressive

Then I would go in on horse back with heavy armor. You can find some soft targets like skirmishers or archers to hit early, and when the enemy is reduced and ready to rout charge in the fray and finish off some high point targets. Since no missile weapon really works all that well mounted, you can stay with the bow too. Use it in sieges, or where the terrain favors it. Maybe calling your horse often will help? Should make him closer when you finally want him right?

I keep hearing about this horse whispering sorcery, how do you do it?
If you use 1.04, it is the key "H"

Heh wow.. Thanks
Did not know that was possible (I can't even whistle in real life, mind you).

How often I unmounted to fight in front of my spearmen line.. having 2, 3 enemies retreat and wishing my horse was around.

Because developers do not share information about the key. I found it when accidentally jabbed the button.
