They shoot with their xbows from the other side of the map and they shoot so quickly my riders simply cannot advance. The bolts are making a deadly barage. And they don't seems to have a bolts limit either. In the real warfare the xbowmen will shoot once and will be dead meat before they succeed to reload the xbows...

In real warfare they'd be protected by infantry, moron.

Hey! A topic regarding a new issue finally! Nobody else ever roused this question, how this can be? I like when someone talks about something never debated before.

ahahaha.

Yes it has been discused before.
What I do is set my forces on hold behind a hill. I proceed alone with my own xbow and advance almost to the top of the hill, just enough to get a clear shot. I kill some enemy xbowmen, which by the way is fairly easy because only a few have headgear and easy targets for head shots, I'm carful not to be targeted by more than two enemies at a time because I'm easy target too. When the first wave has been decimated and the second wave is comfortably near I order a charge, xbowmen are poor H2H fighters and easy prey for mounted soldiers.
Cheers!

Shoot back at them!
or, failing in this,
Use the terrain to your advantage!

Be quick, though, because the hill you're using to block their LOS won't provide much protection when they've finished work on that stone thrower, hell no.

Or use cavalry.

One person (*cough*you*cough*) on a horse should be pleanty to disrupt their effectiveness. don't even bother attacking, just ride through their group and they'll be so busy switching weapons that they won't even get a shot off before your infantry (or cavalry) come charging in and massacre them.

Seems there are assholes in this forum too.

Handel, don't start. One tenth of the new users start this ****ing crusade against 'the forum assholes' (Basically the people with common sense). You are the one who came here talking about real warfare. True, the 'moron' wasn't needed, but don't start calling Fluffy an ******* judging by one post.

Amen.

Point taken.
Now about the game and the real warfare. Obviously the combat is the only thing which is interesting in the game (the trade is rudimentary) and a wish the combat to be more realistic is something understandable. So with xbowmen shooting new bolt every few seconds and shooting those bolts at several hundred meters the combat is everything but realistic.
And something more - in the real combat the xbowmen should be protected by infantry, but then they could not shoot at all. Except if they don't want to slaughter their own infantry...

Infantry can be protecting crossbowmen without blocking their shot in a real battle. The infantry doesn't have to stand right in front of their bows. They could stand slightly behind them and step forward when the enemy charged, or they could could find a hill and stand below the crossbowmen, so the bolts would not hit them, but charging enemies would still have to get thru the infantry to get to the xbow men. I know nothing about medieval warfare, i'm just making this stuff up as I go. But crossbowmen could deffinately shoot while being guarded.
