'Adopting' kidnapped girl into party

I've been playing kidnap girl for about five real world days. She's all leveled up and doing a pretty good job, but I notice that she seems to be limited to carrying one weapon. If I give her a mace and a sword, I'll find that the next time I check on her, she'll only have whatever was in the number one spot. Lost about 3 swords and a mace that way. This is in version 903.

I kept her after losing Marnid who I think was slowing down my whole party. (Not so sure about that anymore). At the time I thought I'd be able to come back and pick him up but I guess he was eaten by Calradian wolves or something. Haven't seen him since day one.

I had the same problem, except it wasn't, as such... I gave her a balanced bastard sword and a kite once she levelled etc, and checked her again. No kite. So I bought another one, and checkd her to put it on. Behold, Old kite was back. And now shes lvl 15 almost 16, training on sea raiders.

Marnid is the best!! I gave him Nordic gear and a 2h heavy battle axe, now he kicks ass.

I tried giving her a 'new' name but it can't be done  :???:
Yep.
You can enter the character screen and change the name of an NPC, but looks like the game won't take notice of your change.

I had Kidnap Girl in my party for more than a week real time and then suddenly she and all the things I bought for her were gone. She was quite leveled up and she had the best of horses and armor. Her sudden disappearance has left me heartbrolken and lonely. Perhaps she should be called "Grifter Girl".

For a long time I avoided Sargoth, her home town because I thought I might find her garisoned by mistake in one of my castles but when I didn't find her after searching them all several time, I attempted to enter Sargoth. After several real time days and many narrow escapes, I got in and found that she had been returned to her people.

Well.... I'm happy for her, but she doesn't even talk to me??? And what about all that stuff I bought for her? I guess she won me some loot but you know I thought she was happy. She never complained. There was plenty of time to address issues as I frequently "checked out her equipment" when we leveled up or were camping. (sigh) Anyhow, I think that if you do keep her around for awhile, you should be able to meet her face to face again at some point in her new life, maybe with fancy cllothes to show she's doing well or something, and there should be some dialogue. Because after all we did hundreds of quests together!!!

After outfitting her with my finest, she was quite useful.  I eventually returned her, but when I got her again she was without the equipment I gave her (ingrate - she probably sold them for a pair of fashionable shoes), though she did have a heavy hunter that I did not give her.  Took it for my inventory just before I returned her again.  Much as she expresses gratitiude for getting her home, intuition tells me she'd rather be out slicing off Vaegir heads...

in v0.893, when you returned her, you could retrieve her back with all gear and stats as you originally had. i have yet to try it in 0.903.

it's true some things you put on kidnapped girl will disappear since she can be a very buggy character.
  • she has been known to make your very expensive reinforced winged helm and basically anything stronger than a nordic helm disappear when you stick it in her head slot. HOWEVER, in battle you will see it equipped on her--whether it gives her the defense bonus im still not sure.
  • kidnapped girl only has 3 weapon slots. the fourth one will make things disappear. she also has a tendency to reorganize the weapons/shields you give her with one-handed + shield as the priority over two-handed and polearms.

Kidnapped girl is awesome. She starts at such low level that you can actually control the direction of her level ups! As I already have woodsman skills, healer skills, trade and engineer, and training with my other characters (borcha, ymira, marnid, rolf) I get to devote the kidnapped girl entirely to one end. Horrid War! Strength and agility all the way. She is tough as heck now. A few battles ago she took out King Yaroglek, I was so proud. She currently has some regular hand-me-down armor from me (trickle down economics is alive and well in my party) and does very well.

i like the way you play
she has even exceeded my rolf in terms of battle effectiveness

edit: LOL my king just asked if he could borrow assistance from my kidnapped girl

 You must be kidding. I have yet to see that happen

I have a strange feeling the option of 'adopting' Kidnapped girl into your party
will disappear with the next version - or at least in v. 1.00
I just hope this fun little feature will stay and the bugs will be fixed.

She could have a fun little story about being pleased with the kidnapping
because of her overprotecting parents.
Instead she wants to be a bandit/rebel or something.

Oh, and she keeps stealing the stuff you give each month - who said period

If the mission ends, do you still hae to return the girl?

no, you can keep her indefinitely so long as you dont go to the city from whence you got the mission. in the case that you return her, continue asking guild leaders for quests until you can get her again.

The size of KG's inventory seems to vary - in my .894 game she would only hold on to two things, in my .903 game, she managed to keep three (but a fourth item always disappeared). I don't know if it's related to levelling up, or just random, but I wonder if maybe you get her up high enough she might hold on to more stuff? Meanwhile it's an easy way to clear space in the inventory - "Hey, KG, can you lose these captured weapons for me?"

My king's always asking to borrow her, along with the other heroes (.903), I think he saw her with no armour on

In .894 I went back to the merchant after I lost her, and gave him his money back, which cleared the quest from the log. I wonder if that would work again, without losing her?

I'm sure if you dump her somewhere, ask her to wait a while, whilst you head off to the merchant and give him his ransom money back, then it should clear the quest. BUT I haven't tried it yet, and she still might decide to "go home". Maybe it should be made a feature - pay back the cash, tell her family she's fine, then you can keep her without worrying about going to that city ever after

someone try this experiment:
have enemies chase you so that you see the words "running after [your name's] party."

in that situation, you can talk to your NPCs to give them command to lead another small party in a different direction. do this near the town where you got the KG quest.

i want to know if you can enter the town without losing her suppose you gave her troops to distract your detractors.

i ended up doing something easier. i lent KG to one of my lords, traveled to her city and told the guild master i lost her along the way

it's no longer on my quest list

I got her back. This time she was held near Tadamesh. She still had the skills she learned. She even had the armor and heavy charger. It would be so cool if she remembered me and had some explanation for how she got from Sargoth to Rivacheg and got kidnapped again. Her family must have moved or she's scamming everybody. She's like Tuco in the Good the Bad and the Ugly. She moves from town to town. Gets taken in by a wealthy merchant, maybe as a maid who becomes part of the family. Then she gets "kidnapped" by her partners, the bandits. This covers her crime of stealing from the wealthy family. Then I go out to spring her and we run off with the money. She lives with my band for awhile. Then she runs off with my expensive armor and horse and finds a new family in a town when she gets tired of adventuring and the whole thing repeats.

so i ended up trying this in addition to the other method of lending her to a lord. unfortunately the method you see above will cause kidnapped girl to cease to exist such that you can never even get the KG quest again

i had her park outside of her hometown, lied to the guild master that i had "lost" her along the way, returned his ransom money, then left town only to receive one of those red error messages. in an attempt to get the quest back, i accepted the "escort caravan" quest and "deliver goods" quest simultaneously to weed out the possibilities--yet the guild master tells me "i have no quest for you now." that has led me to conclude that i can never get the quest again so dont try this method, lend her to a lord (she may have to be a higher level for them to request her). that way, she doesnt appear as a glitch on the map (she's invisible in the lord's army) when you lie to the guild master.

NOW you tell me!  I left her outside of town and went in as you did to resolve the quest.  When I came back out she was there with a "0" in her party.  When I met her to get her back into the party, I got a script error and she vanished.

Edit: I was able to get the quest again, and picked her up on request from the guild master in Veluka.  But now her helmet disappears whenever I give her one.  Lost 2 thick winged helmets that way.  Maybe she just likes the wind in her hair?
