Adding Items from one mod to another.

I want to add all the items from the Rohan faction from TLD to Silverstag because reasons.

Thing is, I have no idea if I can take only the items related to Rohan or have to take all the items period.

Also, the .brf and texture files for TLD are a tad confusing but I'd want to know if its possible at all before I get around to untangling the mess.

Look in the "OSP" section of the forum, anything mentioned there are things allowed to use, as long as you credit them. If something is not there, you can try PMing the mod developers and asking.

P.S. TLD put EVERYTHING of theirs as OSPs, but i wont give you the link as you wont learn anything! go look at the osp forum!

As long as you don't re-release it in any way, you're allowed to use anything from any mod in your own personal projects.
Porting all those items would require you to:

1. Move all the .brf files containing the items you want from one mod to the other.
2. Make sure that none of the meshes in those .brfs link to textures or materials outside that .brf file. If they do, you'll have to bring that .brf over as well and merge where names clash.
3. Go to module.ini and add the line "load_mod_resource = [name of brf file]" for each .brf file you've added. Be aware that the order matters; if textures and materials are in seperate .brfs to their meshes, put the textures first and then the materials.
4. The tedious bit: go to the TLD texture folder and copy every single texture that's mentioned in the .brfs you added. If you're not worried about disk space, just copy them all and make sure it doesn't overwrite.

Did as you guys suggested, realized the .brf and required textures for Rohan aren't that hard to find but I'm getting an error related to the shader of a Rohan helmet.
Any idea what might cause that?

get_shader failed for: iron_shader_rohanhelm

That means that you dont have that specific shader "iron_shader_rohanhelm" in your mod. That is a shader made for TLD, and the easiest way to fix it would be to just look in openbrf, change the material shaders that use that to "tex_color_multi". <---that is a shader used by native, and an over-all alright one.

Worked like a charm, used specular_shader_noskin_bump_high_Instanced that was used by a bunch of other helmets and everything works great now.

Managed to slam myself on another wall. I edited the items_kinds1 to add all the items that used the .brf and textues files I merged with the mod. Now M&B crashes while loading.

I have no idea what might be causing the error. Instead of posting the whole file I'll post the last 3 original lines and the ones I added.

I really am no expert on the subject and I don't have the slightest clue on how to fix this. And before you ask, I did try a few things but none worked.

Did you change the number at the very top of item_kinds? it's the number of entries -- add how many items you just added to that number.

Sure did, original number was 1152 and I added 57 items to 1209.

Are you editing the .txt files or .py files? if you are using .py files can you post THOSE entries? XD

Pretty sure he's using .txt files.

It could be a matter of a misplaced space or line break. You might also need to check if there are any placeholder items near the end that might need to be bought to the front.

I am using the .txt files. I'll check the file again to make sure everything is as it should be.

Was asking because py files are easier to read. Make a backup of what the .txt file, delete some of the items and see if it still isnt working, then copy/paste the add from your backup, delete more, and repeat, until it doesnt crash. When you find what makes it crash, keep deleting less and less until you find  the single line of code that is the error, and find it in there, it minimizes your search this way, and makes it easier to figure out whats wrong

Finally got it to work. As pointed, I had to make sure the structure of the lines was the same and hunted a few rogue spaces and I'm finally able to load in. I was greeted by, you probly guessed, more errors!

Good news first, the weapons and armor sets show up in vendor screen just fine, same for horses.

Bad news, the helmets have clipping issues with the character head and are all transparent. I'm guessing the helms don't like the shaders used by Silverstag but I have no clue what causes the clipping.

Transparent? are you sure they just arent off-screen?(underground, inside character, etc). If they are, you can edit them in openbrf to position them right.

I can see them allright, I can see through them. They also seem to be more in front of where they should be, the back of the helms clip with the back of the head

Ah, it's been a while since I've seen that error
The shader they used before was called iron_shader_rohan, which is probably an extension of the native iron_shader, which i hate with a passion. It uses the transparent parts of a single texture to show where the shine, or "specularity" should be, rather than using a specular map like normal, well-adjusted people. The problem is that the newer shaders like specular_shader_whatever expect there to be more than just one texture.
Try changing them to iron_shader. It's gonna look a bit 2007, as iron_shader was a standard of the original m&b. But it should work.

That did the trick, and with a bit of re-positioning like Kelthin suggested, the helms are ready to see action!

I'm down to one problem on my list, the shields. They look ****ed up beyond repair. None of the correct texture show and all the models come up wrong. Any suggestion?

No idea about the shields, try if its the texture (become a "lord" so you can get your own banner, and see if the banner goes on the shields). If it does, then its the texture being weird.
