Acceptable to kick/ban imposters?

While reading it, I was wondering what I would do as an admin if I ran into somebody who was a known imposter.  Would it be acceptable to kick/ban them, or does an admin not have any business protecting clans?

I dislike this imposter business. My first reaction is to say we should be able to kick/ban people for doing that sort of stuff, but I don't want to overstep our official boundaries.

lol The way I see it is that it should be left up to people in the clan. Like earlier, there was a hobogeneral and I didn't want to do anything til an actual Hobo was on because I wasn't sure if they cared or not. But if someone does this clan impersonation, I vote they be kicked, they try again, banned. Warning them properly of course.

I'm not sure banning someone for throwing up a clan tag would be fair to be honest. If all they have is just a clan tag attached to their name and aren't causing any other trouble, then what is the harm really?

something like XII_ISLAM_PENIS on the other hand should be kicked immediately for trolling though.

Well, if they have a false clan-tag and you are aware of it, I'd say to give them one or several warnings and a kick if they don't heed it. If they are troublesome as well, for example teamkilling or insulting, I think that a ban wouldn't be the wrong choice (after some warnings and kicks). Like for example this guy: Even though he was teamkilling and impersonating on a private server, I figure that a warning would be in order once he is seen with those identities on an official server. Should he not heed them and teamkill as "22nd_ChuckNorris" for example, I figure he can be kicked and if returning in the same manner, banned.

The guy that HULKSMASH reported has the ID 12573 and goes by the names "Islam_is_cool" and "XIII_Islam_Boners". He seems rather inactive: I could only find him online that one day on the server US_S2.

Impersonating a clan is annoying for the clan in question, but I don't think it's a big problem. It is an indication that the guy is probably out to more cause trouble though, so keep a close eye on them and don't let them get away with anything.

That's pretty much my view on the matter as well.  Sometimes somebody will wear a clan tag just as a joke, like I've done with nK variants such as "Kn" or "hK".  Unless the person in question is actively trolling, it shouldn't be a big deal.

However, I think there's a bigger question behind all of this: how much should admins cater to clans?  It seems like a somewhat of a gray area.  Do we have the right/responsibility to "protect" clan tags or support any one clan in particular in a situation?  Or is our purpose to moderate gameplay only on an individual, personal level?

Well, it's hard to define.  Compare it to the separation of church and state.  ()  Do we view the clan system as a private affair that we aren't involved with, or an essential part of the community to be protected by us?  Do clans have any officially-acknowledged "rights", in other words.  Such as the exclusivity of their tags.

I know there's been no problem in the past, I'm just wondering.

I agree with our local caveman.

Only circumstances that impersonating someone else should result in admin action is if
A) The player is impersonating an admin

or

B) The player is doing so to cause drama or grief to the general community

for instance
player hobo_bobo joins the server.
hobomember_x ****s a brick because the player is throwing up his gang sign without being a part of the gang
Hobo_bobo doesn't talk or break any rules and plays the game peacefully.

bobo in this situation should not have any action taken against him, as he is not breaking any rules, and merely wants to be a part of our wonderful hobos.

second instance
player hobo_troll joins the server
hobo troll starts intentionally mocking other players by saying stuff such as "we hoboclan are teh gay and like teh ghey buttsecks"
hobo_troll should be kicked, as he is griefing other players.

does anyone disagree with this?

Sounds good to me.  And even if we WERE kick/banning people just for wearing the tag, I'd never enforce it on hobo imposters.  I find it amusing that we're so high-profile as to be targeted thus.

Well, Rhade, Jaime, and I passed Divine Hobojustice upon a hoboimposter. God willed it, and we carried it out. I plan on leaving it up to the members of a clan. High ranking people of said clan, of course.

Warned & kicked "nK_Imgay." So he came back as nK_Buttfart with his friend nK_BustaRhymes. Banned both of them. Followed them to another server, BustaRhymes took off his tag but Buttfart kept it. Ban.
