About your rank and commanding of another's army

I have find quite annoying that when you join a battle between two others forces (that is already going on) you star side by side with your allies and worst, you command them. This could led to absurds situations, like when you just don't join a side at the war and haven't any rank and can give orders to your knight's ally.(You know, knights are known to be very proud people).
There is possibility of game exploit too, since you can join that large Swadian force agains a Vaegir patrol and just wait for your allies to destroy the enemie and gain you share of the loot and experience.
So I think in the following - when joining a battle, you should appear far from your allies - they are already fighting. Maybe the flanks of the enemy are exposed to you, maybe it's the flank of your allies - this could be random or based on your tactics skill.
And of course, you couldn't give orders to your ally soldiers with you are a low rank or isn't even in that army - only to your men.

I am sure they listen. What happens is that if you order them to "hold position", as longer a enemy get near some of your soldiers will move to engage them, but won't get too far.
