About Shadows

Greetings from a mod fan and congratulations for the idea, I saw those shadows, the first undead which I fought with in my first game and I wanted to say... they are awesome, is there a possibility to play as one, maybe in later versions, the shadow mage is just badass, those little red eyes covered in a face with no emotions, wish you luck for the mod.

Look badass, but I find them to be very weak overall, atleast, every necromancer I try to play seems to have this issue that you just can't train the shadows to any form of decency because they die so fast from anything. >.>

They are actually just pieces of armor, so the only thing I can think of that would allow you to "be" one is the cheat menu. If you hit the ~ key when in game and type cheatmenu you will be able to go the camp menu and search for an item. It will be somewhere in there. After you are done hit ~ and type nocheatmenu. You could also do a mix and match like Shadow knight using Twilight armor except say the head piece, which could be a shadow head.

Ah, that was one thing I wanted to ask, whta is the armor the Dark Knights use, and can the player get them In Game or are they 'Cheat' only?

The Dark Knights use Twilight armor (along with several other evil and demonic knight types). You can get it, but you need to kill a group of them that is wandering the map; have a decent looting skill so you have a chance of getting the pieces. They have head, leg, body pieces, and a shield (Black Shield).

Are you sure about being an armor... I saw a hooded shadow mage, I doubt it is an entire headset. If I may suggest you should make undead playable since... those.... little... knife ears are playable arrg...

Actually, shadows have two parts (I wanted them to be only one part, though) one is the race model and skin and the other is the "armor" I made the shadow armor texture and material, because the Warband engine won't accept transparent textures. You could become of the shadow raze, but you would be solid black. The shadow "armor" comes in 4 tiers, the first being similar to leather armor and the fourth similar to plate.
I didn't add the option of becoming one because solid shadows kind of make me uncomfortable and even more to be able to take off and put on your own transparent skin

Oh, what about the undead... I mean mummies I think they would be awesome for an anti-hero, would be cool to play as one of them since zombies and skeletons are not the kind to have free will.

Guspav answered  I had no idea that there was actually a model under there :O. I guess what's on the inside is what really counts.

So if the armor almost completely covers their skin what is the point of the race model? I'm guessing it deals with the items of Shadow Mages and ETC when they need to wear robes?

Zsword 说:
and once more you strike again with the lack of hand items. >:I

Sorry I missed the gauntlets! They are also available. They give 8 body armor.

Oh good, I just thought this was another instance of no other race or armro set ever having gloves, like the Drow, or Elves, or Mages, no new gloves, are we expected to wear the Leather Healing Ring everywhere or something? Or are the Hourglass Gauntlets our end all 'new glove'?

On the matter of why undead have their own race as well as skin: I'm guessing this is two parts.

1: The transperancy layer itself doesn't have a color, and instead takes the existing skin tone and lowers it's opacity. (Pure speculation, I haven't dug into the engine personally)

2: Sound effects, the soft hissing you hear I'm 85% certain is tied to race. (PArt of the reason of why having female units is a whole other Race slot.)

Firstly, there is a shadow race so those troops can wear clothes if necessary, like the shadow wizards wearing robes or the shadow knights wearing helmets, since they are black, transparency wouldn't show anyway.

Secondly, like Zsword said, the shadow sounds are linked directly to the race, if I just give some humans the shadow armor, they will look like shadows but they'll keep screaming and grunting like humans, which would be really weird.
When we get to the point of giving each race a unique voice, they'll grunt and scream in their own unique style. So far, only the undead have been given race sounds.

Such a shame the undead in general are not playable... as a proud fan of the undead the only thing I can accomplish is being a necromancer and kill some knife ears.

I suppose it would make sense to play as a mummy.
I am still not sure, though, if that should be available from the beginning.
I was thinking of adding a quest so you can become a lich (which is essentially a mummy).

A quest to attain Lichdom would be pretty solid, have it enhance undead control, gain that fear aura, downside? Well you're Turnable now, so watch out for dem crazy clerics.

Although I still feel the Shadows/Mummies are really weak and frail compared to some of the other factions, I can understand Skeletons and Zombies being fodder like weak cause, you know, they can't rank up, but for how long it takes to make Shadows, they just don't seem to hold their weight.

This... If you do it, you will make undead fans like me leave their social life and play it nonstop. By mummy isnt it the default undead from native, it would be awesome

Well a quest would be cool if someone wishes to join the dark side, but its up to you to decide how to add it. If a race should be unplayable I suggest they would be demons, since in lores all they care is destroying worlds, unlike the undead. To return in topic I would like to become an undead and kill the living scum.

I was born into this world with the power of the flame to make sure the eternal life cycle continues. What is born must die and be reborn.

Truly another chapter of the Chaplain's Great Purge will begin!

If the quest for lichdom is added it will mark another fantastic reason for the Chaplain to set out.

I would even be forced to gather my recording software and start the series! The one I sadly ended up not having the time for .
