I have searchd so no complaints please - i am not sure if this has been implimented yet but, i would like to have the ability to knock the enemy to the floor when i hit them with an arrow (like you can with axes or horse charge ect) my archey is about 170 and i cannot knock enemies to the floor yet so i dont think its in game. cheers 4 reading

yeah, arrows really cannot be shot with that much force to knock someone over. if you did shoot them with a ballista, it'd kill them and send them flying.

Arrows pierce, they don't have much actual impact. They wouldn't knock a guy down, just go through them and kill them. If you weren't killed by the arrow, you wouldn't be knocked over by the impact, but you might sit down in shock or something.

Physics.

alesch is right, arrows are not impact weapons, they are cutting. Modern hunting arrows are so sharp that on occasion, deer or other large game will not notice an arrow in them until they bleed to death. Obviously, medieval arrows were probably not this sharp, especially if they were mass produced, but they were still meant to penetrate instead of smashing somebody off their horse.

Yeah, i agree. An arrow wouldn't knock you down. But i bet you wouldn't be standing for much longer anyway. But that goes for almost any wound greater than a scratch. So...i think its better left out. But on second thought...it sure would look cool to watch a guy fly backwards after being hit, and then trying to get back up. I guess i'm neutral on this on.

i wouldent argue against bolts being fired from a crossbow knocking you down, since those hit with much more force then a normal bow. if guns are ever implemented, those would send you reeling as well.

Thought to chime on some thoughts of my own..
Crossbow and bow certainly wouldn't knock people down. Strong crossbow would probably have higher projectile velocities than say a longbow but bolts also tend to be shorter(and lighter) than arrows so the impact force wouldn't be that different.

You have to blame movies for giving a picture that guns for example knock people down (sometimes couple of meters backwards). Getting shot makes a nice little hole and so it is with arrows and bolts too. People who understand physics probably realise how a few gram bullet can't move a 80kg person even if full impact force was absorbed by something (bone/armour)

The only reason why people fall down from a bullet or an arrow hit is shock, which is sometimes psychological ("I've been hit! AAarrgghhh!") and the rest of the time physical ("Oh, look, me liver!"). They don't fly off anywhere

A sword blow has more energy behind it than a rifle bullet does.

If I'd get an arrow from a long bow, either to upper body or leg, I'd hit the deck, no question about it. The reason for hitting the deck just isn't the enormous amount of kinetic energy tossing me around (since there isn't enough of that, plus the energy gets spread over too small an area), but rather the highly debilitating effects of a projectile in my guts.

Thats quite true Santtuvaltteri but as normal blows dont knock you down because of shock or "hurt" it is best so that projectile hits dont either.
I for example would naturally fall down if I was slashed with a three foot of sharp steel. Arrow in my gut would have the same effect. In M&B getting knocked down from pretty much anything that hit you wouldn't be fun.
I thinks its best for gameplays sake that bandits stay up until you hit them enought to kill/incapacitate them. Delving into physics behind melee or projectile combat is not needed. This current level of knockdown is enough eye candy and has high enough impact already.

If locational damage was someday introduced here maybe you could simulate that "hurt" effect then and cause guys with, say torso area hits, fall to ground or limb damage might cause appropriate effects (limp, useless arm etc..).

Ah, I was a little unclear there. What I meant was that people fall down because they're too hurt to stand. Which, in M&B terms, means that there is no more health left.

I was trying to tell that arrows don't send people flying, or even knock them down just because they fly so fast...

Some people seem to take 5 or 6 arrows to kill! Who are they? Boromir?

Others can be taken down with 1 or 2. I think a shot to the chest with an arrow should kill. There should be no more than 2 arrows in the chest needed to kill someone.

Sorry, I disagree with this suggestion. There's a certain satisfaction now in getting that headshot and watching the guy fall down dead. If guys are going to go down every time they are wounded then it will detract from that "special moment".
