Ability To Parry With Weapon Instead of the Equipted Shield?

Users who are viewing this thread

I like to use a shield/sword combo but I really only use the shield against groups of people. When I'm fighting just one or two guys it gets wasted, and then the rest of the group shows up and my shield breaks because the first few guys wailed on it.

It would really be great if I could parry with the weapon like you can without the shield, but do it while the shield is equiped. Maybe as a seperate button, or have it as a toggle tied to the "change shield" button as one of the "shields" you can rotate to" (IE, you could rotate from Shield 1, to Shield 2, then to Parrying with your weapon.)

That way you could choose to save your shield for when you really need it.

One had always hated having a shield, though such a device was neccessary to protect oneself from sharp, pointed projectile weapons that hurt very much when one found oneself on the receipt of... one.

It was then that one found salvation in the form of:

Mount & Blade version 0.7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe armagan stated that you will be able to put away your shield whenever you want to in the upcoming version (version .700).

For instance, you're about to be charged by a crazy sea raider with a battle ax and you don't want your shield to get wrecked up, so you put it away and fight with just your one-handed weapon. Now, let's say that after you finish him, you see his pal getting ready to plant a throwing axe in your face, so you re-equip your shield, block the flying axe before it hits you in the face, and proceed to hack him to bits.

Parrying with one hand wasn't really useful, unless you were hit by a relative weak force. parrying with two hand isn't only about counter force, but rather spreading the points were force is applied (if you parry using two hands in the same location you'll find it much much harder to parry than spreading your hands).
Farther more, your weapon had the same, if not more chances of being broken.

So blocking with a sword while using a shield would be highly historically inaccurate regarding how useful it would be with the current game mechanics.
