Ability to manipulate Lords/Kingdoms with economic power

So in the gamescom interview, something like "you don't have to be a warrior or lord, you can be a merchant and effect the world" has been said. I wonder if are we able to give loans to lords/Kingdoms, or bribe them?

I would like to try to be a merchant and build one big economic empire around Calradia, then cornering lords/kingdoms with loans, making them bankrupt and then using economic power on them to make them go to war against my enemies, or protect my interests. Would this be possible? Will "using one king/lord as a puppet" be a thing?

I bet everything related to diplomacy will be hugely improved. One for all, the ability to corrupt lords and convince them to make war/peace.
So I think you're right, having big amounts of money has to give you big amounts of influence.

Agreed. You should be able to build up a caravan, creating trade networks even which brings political power. For example you keep aside with a faction and use embargo to its enemy etc. And i believe there should be other big trade patrons you compete or ally with. For caravans again, which has big loads should pay tariffs to cities when they enter, different from every lord-between trader.  Which is a political element between lord and trader, a good parameter to link trade and politics. Otherwise with trade, you just buy and sell then get rich then invest again in leadership and make armies. But you should be able to be somewhat strong without making an army.

Yes!!! The worlds most influential and effectual movers and shakers are often times not military men... But those who have amassed an obscene amount of wealth.

Its probably part of that mid-late game stuff that they still need to do. I dont know how in depth itll be but it will be nice to be able to play as a Little Finger thpe of character.

All I've ever wanted since Warband first came out was the ability to break and cripple my enemies by scourging their lands with fire and blood. I would burn every village in Swadia to the ground and sell all the loot and it would make no difference. This I hope is truly changed.

A true XII-XV centuries-inspired mid-XX century historian statement there, mate. But indeed, it would be awesome if having huge amounts of wealth would allow easier access to influence. This would really allow for political control through money. Even if it is not "accurate" for X-XI centuries, the possibility to do so would be awesome. Freedom to control the world through Butter Trading! YES.

I will probably always be in support of non-warrior/lord type content for Bannerlord and this is no exception. Merchants, especially exceedingly wealthy ones, has a very large amount of control over the market and generally 'fight' their battles by crushing their enemies with their overwhelming wealth. So manipulating lords, and by extension kingdoms, to do my bidding is certainly enticing.

Who's to say a merchant can't help a kingdom by bankrupting its enemies?, not me.

What would happen if I bought out all the blacksmiths then enticed a kingdom to go to war, soldiers needs both food and armament, and those armanents need to come from somewhere so why not your local blacksmith with a %300 markup, don't like it?, too bad I literally own all the blacksmiths now pay up.

Little Finger?, I'd prefer to be a Lannister-type, especially Tywin, (minus any Lannister whose name does not being with "Ty", no seriously the only good/not-horrible Lannisters are Tytos, Tywin, and Tyrion) Little Finger's manipulative abilities lies more through his spy network, deception, and blackmail rather than economic manipulative. Little Finger's bank account is near empty by comparison to the ridiculous amount the Lannister amassed. Also Tywin is apparently a really good businessman, as he alone is responsible for all that wealth. You have got to respect that.

Sorry about the tangent, I saw GoT reference, I made GoT reference.

Back to the topic at hand: the ability to use wealth to influence lord's decision is something I can get behind and would make building a economic empire much more viable as a whole as I feel a lot of the game will be based around the actions of the nobility.
