Chapter 11: Feasts and manhunting

July 25. 1257

Since the peace with the Nords, the Vaegirs have hosted feasts over and over. I realize this could be my chance to start a courtship with a woman. I am on good relations with boyar Meriga, and I asked if I could woo his daughter, Lady Tabath. He said that boyar Rudin already had begun to court her, and he would be a better husband. I ignored what he said, and told Lady Tabath that I admired her, but she refused me right away. Maybe later, then.

I am travelling to Khudan to sell my iron from Curaw, but my war party is attacked by over 80 taiga bandits! The fight is fierce, and I lose 7 good men in the fight, over 20 are wounded. My armor works wonders too. I haven't had any severe wounds since I started wearing it in battles, but of course I would be badly bruised inside my armor.

Nice, but as I already said, more screenshots, longer chapters and more action.
Anyway, I hope you make a very long chapter soon (e.g chapter 15, for it's number) which you divide in smaller parts and in each one you describe shortly what happens. That way, you will get to higher level and more interesting adventures (sieges, your own kingdom etc.) faster.

Good job, so far.

Yes, Vaegirs aren't my favourite faction either, but I chose to play something new in this AAR

Chapter 12: The beginning of another war

September 14. 1257

I have opened a ironworks in Curaw to get some income, my army needs money. The peace has lasted very long now, and I have only helped the kingdom these last months. My army is becoming very bored, because in the beginning, I hired them to fight. Now they are acting as my guards when I trade from town to town. I wish for war soon.

Boyar Meriga approaches me in the castle of Reyvadin and tells me that I should tell king Yaroglek about a concern, which was about another boyar, Taisa. He says that he shouldn't be entrusted with more fiefs, because he is suspected to be a traitor. I hope he isn't. Well, I tell the king about boyar Taisa, and he says that he understands the case, and will think about it.

In the evening, I find this young woman in the tavern. I approach her to start up a chat, just to be nice, but she backs away some steps. I ask her what is wrong, and she answers:
«It's a long story, and if you would want to hear it, just listen. I'm Deshavi. I have been unlucky here in Calradia, and I don't think I'll ever manage to survive proprerly here. I got attacked by bandits, and they kept me as prisoner many months, but I managed to escape, and now I'm here.»
«You could join us, we don't really like bandits either, if anyone does,» I say to her.
«Sure, I'm a good tracker and pathfinder, so you will have good use with me in your army,» she says.
I give her some warmer clothes and a decent bow and sword. I hope she is for good use.

Deshavi shows her valor as we defend a peasant town from a bandit raid. She was damn good with the bow, and I saw at least 4 people go down in her hail of arrows.

September 23. 1257

Boyar Doru sends a letter, where it reads I must come down near Curaw to talk with him, and I approach him as he stands in the snow a few yards from the gates.
«We are going to declare war with the Nords in a few hours, and I need you and your men to prepare to a long war now. King Yaroglek has decided that we will take back Ismirala Castle and Alburq Castle which we lost last war.» he said to me.
«What do you need me to do?» I asked.
«Just follow me, I'm going to lead the army to victory.» he answered to me.
A messenger is riding to Sargoth, to tell King Ragnar about the war. In a few hours, he comes riding in full speed.
«They are coming! The Nords are an hour behind me!» he shouts to the lords that are gathered here.

One hour later, we see about 400 men in the horizon, and we start to approach them. We set up a line with our 600 men, and the archers start barraging at the warriors, which now are about a half mile away from us. «Cavalry, charge!!!» Boyar Doru yells at the top of his lungs. The cavalry starts riding against the warriors. They start welcoming us warmly with throwing weapons, and about 10 men dies from the javelins or axes. As we hit their lines, they are completely broken. 100 horses had just run down 300 footmen. Their lines become quickly dispersed, and we finish them off in 10 minutes. We come out victorious, but most of their lords managed to escape, and can attack us again in a few weeks. However, this was a great start for the war.

Really, really, really good work. But what are you graphics settings? Your screenshots look kinda blurred.

And again, really good work!

Yes, about the graphics:

Im really sorry, but I have a laptop from 2007, which we got WITH a printer. Yes, we got it free if we bought the printer. So my graphics are really suckish, as you can see in picture 3, the shadows got insane over the whole map. Im playing on 800x600 resolution, 50% texture detail, environment shadows on, particle systems and dynamic lighting. I hope that wont hurt the AAR too much.

Thank you both for the good feedback anyways.

Chapter 13: The siege of Dhirim

September 31. 1257

Boyar Doru has decided that we take the town of Dhirim. The Nords had taken it from Swadia recently, and had only about 150 troops in it. Dhirim is a very central town in Calradia, and we will profit much, even though we will have some casualties.

We set up a camp behind a little hill, which is the only thing that separates us from the Nord arrows. We stay there and have a discussion about the prices of iron in Khudan while we wait for the footmen to get the siege ramp done. They get the tower done in a day or so, and I have a good sleep in the camp. I take my armor on and prepare for the onslaught.

At once they push the siege tower over the hill, we are getting barraged by Nord archers. Those pesky archers! They had bodkin heads on their arrows so my armor wouldn't do much, so I relied on my shield. I get an arrow in my hip, which goes all the way through the leg. It hurts damn much but I think about something else, like the other skirmisher here who got hit in the mouth and the arrow came out of his neck. It looked very painful...

Finally, they push the siege tower to the walls, and everyone charges. I forget about my leg and I try to walk, but I fall because the leg is almost useless. I crawl back to the camp and get healed up, and stay there for the rest of the day. The arrow didn't hit any vital things, like the bone or any tendon. I am also happy that I couldn't get up on the ramp, because it was a meatgrinder. Many good men died on that ramp.

In a few hours the assault is done and we have control over the city. The vassals march back to tend their businesses in the kingdom, and I will get to the hospital in Reyvadin to get my wound treated. On the way back, we chase an escaping lord, we destroy his army, and Doru takes him as a prisoner. No casualties on our side.
