Chapter 1: New Beginning

Home... My dear Holland. For all I know my children and everyone I love must think I'm dead. I don't know if I ever can go back, so it is easier to forget my past and move on to what lies ahead of me. But even after more than a year, it still hurts how it all ended. My name is William II, former count of Holland and Romanorum Rex. I was born on February 1228, and became count when my father disappeared on 19 July 1234.

My rule ended suddenly at that battle near Hoogwoud, in 28 January 1256. I did pretty well, but I got lost. I tried to traverse a frozen lake (by myself, because I was lost), but my horse fell through the ice. In this vulnerable position, I was captured by the Frisians. I was to be sold in Scandinavia, but on the way, we were caught in a storm.

But now things are about to change. I heard from the sailors that we will soon be at some kind of land, Calradia, with six kingdoms. Since there is no way I can get back to Holland, I'll have to make the best out of it in this land. I don't know what lies ahead of me, but it can't be a bit different from what I know back home, can it? I'll be curious about the town where the sailors will drop me: it's called Praven, the capital of the kingdom of Swadia. I'll write more when I get there.

Chapter 2: Welcome

Finally, I arrived at Praven. What a welcome I got. First, cold steel from a bandit, then a warm drink at a merchant's house. After I regained my consciousness, and thanking the man for his intervention, he offered me a job. While I was a king back home, I'm nothing over here. I'll have to start from scratch, so I accepted to gather some farmers and head out to save his brother form some bandits. To start out, he gave me 100 denars, apparently the local currency.

Bad luck caught up to me. Upon moving a distance away from Praven, I was attacked by a band of looters. I was alone, but they were more numerous.

The battle was hard.
To start, I was positioned on a steep mountain. The height of the mountain gave me time to prepare for battle. With a terrain advantage, I climbed down, while they threw stones at me, to cover the others climbing the mountain. But they were unshielded...

So they were easy to kill.

But it didn't stop me from nearly dying...

And the battle was won. I then moved to the villages around Praven, gathering 12 men, all untrained. We were going to the Training Fields near Veidar when we were attacked by 11 deserters. All of my men died/joined the deserters, while I was captured. I was to be sold as a slave to the Rhodoks.

Luckily, after some hours, I was able to escape, but I was far away from Praven. I had to cross a bridge to get there, running away from the same band of deserters, but I'm still too far away.

Chapter 3: The Rescue

On the way to Praven, I recruited 4 men to protect me. But they were not enough.

We were attacked by a large band of looters. They threw stones, killing/knocking out my men. I was able to kill 13 before being captured again.

Just like the first time, I was able to escape. I then went to Praven. Thanks to all the loot I had gathered, which amounted to about 5000 denars, I was able to recruit mercenaries. Only then was I ready to save the merchant's brother.

"Before we rescue my brother, we need to gather the information on their hideout." Ulric Fugger then continued, "There is a band of robbers outside Praven, they are with the kidnappers who took my brother." He then ordered us to attack the robbers.

The band of robbers numbered only 9, so they were swiped aside easily. Then we learned that their hideout was far, deep into Nord territory. It took us 2 days to get there.

The man was right. It was a narrow defile, with caves carved on mountains. I can only bring 6 men.

Either way, the merchant's brother was rescued.

We also got a lot of loot. We were able to buy better equipment.

It took another 2 days to return to Praven. On returning to Praven, I was given a new quest by Ulric.

The captain of the watch once sponsored a caravan, and spent a lot of money, hoping to make a profit. But the caravan was ambushed by bandits. So he turned to the bandits to restore his wealth. He employed the bandits wholesale, letting them run rampant around the city, and takes a share of their loot.

The bandit that attacked me was but one of them.

On seeing me and Ulric on the streets, the townsmen and the guards attacked the bandits. 6 people died, and another 6 wounded. They expelled the bandits from Praven, at the cost of their lives.

But "Fat Harlaus" did not thank Ulric, but instead ordered him to leave. So I fled to the Kingdom of Nords, where I looked for work.

Chapter 4: Work, work, and work

February 17, 1257

While looking for work, Hersir Logarson gave me a task: hunt down Pechnak of Zendar.
He was said to live in Mechin. In going there, I saw bandits, busy looting the village. Even after killing the bandits, I was unable to go there, because it was looted. I waited for days there, waiting until the village is accessible.

I was able to enter the village, after 10 days. I found a man grasping his sword. He looked like Pechnak. When I asked him about the criminal, he attacked me, rallying the peasants to his side. After killing him, then taking his sword (I sold my sword, thank you), I was then assigned to collect taxes from Fenada. During the tax collection, hundreds of peasants rebelled, while I only had my bodyguard of 3. Still, I killed all of them.

The tax amounts to ABOUT 4000 denars. I gave it to Logarson (HERSIR Logarson, thank you) and he gave me 600 denars as a reward.

After giving Hersir Logarson the money, he had no other tasks to give me. So I went to Heera Urubay. He asked me to deliver a message to Hersir Gearth in Alburq Castle. I went there, but he wasn't there. I had to travel across the kingdom only to find Gearth back in Alburq Castle. Then Urubay was Hersir when I saw him again.

After that, I enlisted in the army of Hersir Faarn as a Vigamadr. But I didn't last long there: I was relieved of duty after 15 days.
Shortly after I left Faarn, I looted another hideout of the bandits.

Chapter 5: Holding off an entire country

June 5, 1257

I joined Konungr Ragnar a day ago. I then rode towards Kelredan Castle, besieging it. Three Swadian counts then came against me to break the siege. I defeated them all.
Poor Montewar was unhorsed,

Plais was abandoned by his men,

Delinard was beaten by 4 of my kenau.

3 days later, Delinard came with Stamar, they attacked me.

My whole force was nearly decimated, were it not for Konungr Ragnar himself. He gave me time to flee with 13 of my men. I went back disgraced to my fief, Jayek. I gathered another army and trained and sparred with it. Haringoth raided my fief, but he was pushed back, his horse crippled. Rochabarth attacked me at Jayek, I won but at the cost of 20 men.

Chapter 6: Ragnar's Errands

I looked for work again to acquire a thousand or more denars, as no peasant in Jayek paid taxes, and the income I get from my bakery in Wercheg was too small for me to get money. Fortunately, Ragnar, the king, needed me to do something. He asked me to find a Sea Raider Hideout. "This requires much effort," said King Ragnar, "as you need to locate a band of Sea Raiders to find their hideout."

We found Sea Raiders near Haen, 11 of them, fighting off 3 Manhunters. But after days of searching, we still weren't able to find the hideout. After that, I met Haringoth again near Jayek. Only 2 of my men died but he had to run with only a handful of his men.
After that, we looked for enemies at the coastline near Tihr. There, the Hideout was located near Haen itself. After that Ragnar asked us to collect taxes in Amere, which was being looted by Devlian. We defeated him and gathered 1400 denars.

Knyaz Meriga attacked us with 365 men, all infantry. We easily decimated them, because their troops were all inexperienced.

Rochabarth looted Jayek. I killed the 26 men with him and took him prisoner.
