Day 39 - Sunset: Victory! The battle was long, it started with several of our Swordsmen rushing to push the cumbersome ladder towards the walls, while a second line put up a shield wall to cover our archers while they fired their arrows and bolts at the defenders on the walls, hoping to wither down them before the tower was in place. I joined the archer group in order to take several shots at the enemy, while analyzing where they were stronger, and what weakness could be exploited, a young Antarian man stood by my side throwing his javelins as accurate as he could, while using his shield to block any bolt sent by the rhodok crossbowmen, that was when I noticed their first flaw, their crossbowmen were green, none like the famed sharpshooters that were known across the whole calradian land, and without those men, the wall could be breached unchallenged, so I order my archer line to target their own archers, while I went to help the other men push the tower.
When the tower finally reaches the wall, we quickly climb it, and throw down the heavy hardwood plank that crushed the crenellations, and opened the path to our swordsmen to finally draw blood on the walls. We jumped on the walls and started to bring the melee out of the rhodok forces, most of my mercenaries fall to superior training of the rhodok spearmen, alas they were skilled foes, so instead of charging them head-on, I sent a small group of antarian infantry to flank them while I gone with several others to take over the keep where certainly Gharmall awaited and watched his men killing and being killed
Artimenner and Matheld took charge of another group and headed to the gate winch, if they could open the castle gates, the rest of our forces could get in without risking themselves at the tower that could allow so many men to pass at the same time, while Lezalit led the main force and his capacity to control and quickly assess the battle was crucial on gaining us the upper hand, if we all succeed, the castle would be ours with few losses
The battle in the keep was fierce, I entered the fortified room with 10 men, antarian and calradian alike, while Gharmall held with his sergeants, sword in hand and the determination of not going down without a fight, our forces clashed, and it only felt right that I sought the enemy commander in the battle. Gharmall was stronger than the other soldiers, and far more skilled with his weapons, and he provided a tough opponent to battle, he pressed on the assault, but I managed to parry his strikes and wear him down with quick stabs across the gaps of his chain mail, I did not wanted to kill that man, I believed he deserved fair treatment, and killing unnecessarily was a thing of the barbaric imperial legions, not me. With their leader subdued, the rest of the garrison surrendered, and some even pledged their service in return for their lives, an offer I shall accept, for now.
